Mosin Nagant safety use

I'm wondering if anyone knows how the Russians or other armies that used the Mosin Nagant uses the safety on the rifle. Did they typically carry the rifle around with a loaded chamber and safety on? Empty chamber and bolt closed, safety off? Just curious on the SOP in military uae.

An interesting question. As difficult as it is to manipulate that safety, that could be challenging while wearing gloves, under fire, etc.

I can't work the safety on mine. Not really worried about it either.

I would not use it. The trigger pull is usually heavier than the rifle.......

I think the bolt can be worked much quicker than the safety. The only disadvantage I can see is one less round in the rifle.

If I was to carry my Mosin afield, it would be round chambered, full magazine, bolt half open. Takes less time to close and lock the bolt than the safety.

Rifle can't go off, bolt is open.

I know I am a little weird, but I prefer the same thing for my Rem 870 Pump defensive shotgun.

I'm not sacrifising a round.
Gun can NOT go off from being dropped.
Its not the full ka-chunk kachunK of the action being cycled.

It is a quiet little "snick" that tells me I'm ready to rock and roll.
And on that gun of course, it has a trigger safety which is also on.
And I have enough hours with it that I could disemble, reassemble, load blindfolded.

Finding the safety in the dark with my trigger finger is childs play.

Ohh and there is one of those super bright lights below the barrel.
That is my preference, YMMV.

Russian tactical manuals state "in the assault/attack" the magazine is loaded, chamber is loaded, safety (they call it a "hammer") is off and the bayonet is mounted/fixed.

The Russian manual for the MN gives instruction on how to engage the safety.

Isn't the firing pin resting on the primer in your carry method? Can you fire it with the heel of your hand?
