    Vintage Weaver Scope

I have a Weaver K-10 scope which I acquired from Ebay several years ago. Functions well on my Savage 340 (22 Hornet).
Enlighten me....the reticle (fine cross-hair) position, as viewed through the sight lens, changes as adjustments for windage/elevation are made....approximate age of this scope?
I recall that many years ago scope ads underlined that their reticles remained centered through the sight lens.
When did the technology in internal adjustment scopes in which the reticle remained centered become commonplace?
Did sniper scopes of WWI & II have this feature?

All the very early scopes that I ever owned or saw thru the mid to late 50's had crosshairs that moved with adjustments. Some more than others. My early Weavers would move but the later ones did not. I am not a scope expert but just going on memory. james

The old ones were a tube, lens, and the adjustable crosshairs were mounted inside the one tube, and you could see them move.
Newer ones have a second tube in there with fixed crosshairs.
When you adjust it, the inner tube moves, but the cross hairs APPEAR to remain centered.
That's partly why you can only adjust them so much,,,, then the inner tube hits the inside of the outer tube.
If it traveled much farther, the inner tube would get to be diagonally in there and block being able to look through it.

I have an old K6 that does it. Good to have windage adj. mounts for it.

A lot of sniper scopes or ww1&2 were the "Unertyl" in which the entire scope was moved in the mounts. Others were Weavers which the crosshairs were adjusted. My guess the first scopes that had the crosshairs in a tube that stayed centered were the Redfields on the M40 rifle. Viet Nam just a guess.

Carlos Hathcock used a Winchester 70 with an 8 power Unertl scope in 30-06. He used a similar rifle national competitions. The M40 was a Remington 700 action with a Redfield 3X9 in .308.
