    Remington 783 Opinions? Cast Friendly?

Let me know what you think folks. Primarily a 30-06 model.
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

I'm sure it would work fine. 1-10" twist and Remington makes great barrels.

I’ve read good reports on it. Mainly it was a big step over the 770 Remington and a decent rifle for the money.

I have a .308 Win version of the 783 Remington and it has worked fine for me. I used it for pig hunting a lot.

You can buy those sometimes at around $250. They shoot really good with jacketed. I haven't tried cast with these because I have flipped them for a little profit as soon as I get them. Can't see why they wouldn't be a good cast shooter as barrels these days are much more consistent than in the past. Should work good with 180 to 220 gr boolits with moderate loads. In fact for the right price get it. Downside is the stock which is atrocious. This thing moves around in your hand on the forearm like a snake. Of course when you add on another stock this raises the price to be over priced compared to a Savage axis which stock is more ridged by a small amount, but enough to be acceptable.

I bought a 770 a few years back just because it was a cheap test platform with a good barrel. It shot cast sub MOA groups right out of the box so I am sure your 783 will be similar since improvements were made primarily in the action and stock.

I have one in 308.. short barreled at 18in.. easy to haul in the thick stuff.... love it. It’s never shot a Jword in its life. Can’t go wrong. It does lack the personality of a fine Mauser, and looks like something the Borg Collective produces.

I know my Ruger American rattled apart because I pushed it hard but I’d tell you to check them out. I talked my buddy into one in a 30-06. It’s a shooter. Sub MOA with factory 180 grain core Locts.

Compass is a far better rifle in all ways. Wait for next rebate deal, 250 bucks.
