Powders for loading 200gr cast 10mm

My new XDM 10 is on it's way so it is time to work up some test loads!

I ordered some 200gr WFN Hi-tek coated cast boolits from Montana Bullet works and would like to work up to a 1200 - 1250 FPS load. I would like to start out with powders I already have on hand. Powders I have that I think might fit the bill are Longshot, Power Pistol and 2400.

Looking at the available load data it looks like Longshot might be the ticket. The only Longshot load data I can find is on the Hodgdon site for 200gr XTP's. Nothing for cast. I figure I will use this data to get a starting point.

Any other load data out there for the 200gr cast? Any other input?

    Thanks!

Of the powders you list, Power Pistol is the only one listed by Lyman.

Powders for loading 200gr cast 10mm

You can use jacketed data for cast. You should be starting low and working up anyway. Of those powders you’d want Longshot. That and 800-X are the top performers in 10mm. The later meters like gravel but is my preferred powder. I’m positive there’s a good bit of data for 200 grain bullets in Lee’s manual.

Thanks for the Data Outpost75! Interesting, similar velocities with all powders listed. I have Bullseye and Unique on hand but would have thought them too fast to crowd the 1200fps mark. Go figure....

That's what I was figuring on doing. I don't have any 800-X so I guess I'll try the Longshot.

Find 800x. You wont regret it if you are loading one at a time (non-progressive). Its the cats behind in 10

Hopefully by now you have found a great load...

I'm also shooting the Montana 200 but just the plain lead.

8.6 gr. of Longshot gets 1210 from a RIA 4.25" and 1260 from a PARA Longslide Hunter.
