38 s&w?

I had the winning bid on a S&W Model 33 Regulation Police in 38 S&W. From the features in pics it looks like late 60s production. Those of you that have this revolver what weight range of boolit shoots to the fixed sights on this revolver? I see Accurate Molds has several in a wide range of weights some of which I have seen mentioned in post about the S&W Victory Model. Would any of these heavier weights shoot close to the sights in a Model 33?

The pre-1957 S&W I-frame Regulation Police and the later J-frame Model 33s will shoot to the sights with Accurate 31-142H with 2.7 grains of Bullseye. The 36-151H, 36-155D or 36-159H will be close, but slightly high, correct charge for those being 2.5 grains of Bullseye.

Heavier bullets such as 36-176P, 36-187H, 36-190T, 36-200D and 36-200T will all shoot VERY high.

I cast 360271 and 358246. SWC and round nose. My alloy; they size to .360 and weigh 147 grains. My 1927 Reg. Pol. and my 1953 Pre 33 both handle them really well. I have 2 older Colt PP 38 revolvers that also like them. I use Starline cases, WSP primers and 2.5 gr. of Bullseye

I have a model 33 that shoots to the sights with a Lyman 358091 Wad Cutter sized to .361 with 2.4 gr Bullseye. S&Ws usually need .361 - .363 bullets to shoot well. Slug your cylinder throats to be sure. Just ordered a NOE 363-150 RN mold, which is made for the 38S&W, but I have not used it yet. Colts in 38 S&W (38 Colt New Police) tend to have tighter barrel and throat dimensions, usually .357 to .358. Any 145 to 158 bullet shoots close to the sights in my 6" Colt 38 Police Positive. I use Lymans 146 gr 358212 RN sized to .357 with 2.4 gr Bullseye.

You still want to size bullets to cylinder throat size, rather than barrel groove diameter. My Webley & Scott, S&W Victory, S&W Regulation Police and Model 32 Terrier all have .362 cylinder throats and I size bullets for them .361" My 1920 and 1937 Colt Police Positives and Ruger India Model Service Six all have .359 throats and shoot well with standard .358 bullets.

I size to the throats as well. My Colt PP measures just over .357. My seated out .361 wadcutters wont chamber in the Colt.
