    Winchester 94 barrel question

Can a Post-64 Winchester 94 barrel be used to replace a shot out Pre-64 barrel on a 1936 manufactured Win94?
Are the barrel threading the same or different for the rifles?
I intend to rebarrel my worn-out 32 Win Spl but I don't want to pay an outrageous prices of a custom barrel blank when I know there are a ton of pulled 30-30 Post-64 barrels for sale on Ebay and other places.

Thanks for whatever replies the forum can provide.

Is having the barrel re-lined an option? Seems a shame to change it.

Consider a 38-55 rebore by JES. I did this to my Dad's 1954 Win 94 30-30. No change in appearance and it's more accurate than it was as a 30-30. BUT; yes the post 64 barrel will work. Even the angle eject barrel can be used if you cut a 12o'clock extractor slot.

I have mixed feelings bout it. On one hand changing a vintage rifle is a shame, on the other hand most of them old timers that used those rifles would have repaired them with functionality being the primary goal. I say rebarrel with a cheap post 64 barrel now and keep your eyes peeled for a good pre 64 barrel at a reasonable price.

John Taylor relined my shot-out 1894, which preserves the external markings and patina. He recommends relining versus reboring because the nickel steel used in the older Winchesters can be problematic as to getting a good interior bore finish on a rebore. You can reline to the original caliber or to a different one. In my case I had him do a .35/.30-30 with 1:16" twist and have been extremely happy with the result.

That is excellent information about the steel used and potential issues. I wonder about relining in a different caliber an not marking it on the barrel. Safe for the doer but may cause problems down the road, especially if one passes away and the guns is sold in an estate sale.

Do you want to change caliber, or just get it shooting?
If you don’t want to change caliber, get it relined.
That, as others have said, preserves the markings and patina.
If you want to change calibers, then the options are wide open.

I like the idea of relining the barrel but not many 32 caliber (.321") tubes out there to keep it in the original caliber. But I know that I can get a 30-30 barrel without spending a year or more waiting for a 32 Winchester Special barrel to appear.

Numerich had barrels both factory and aftermarket. I converted several 94 30/30 to 38/55 with their parts. I don't know about 30/30-32 but 38/55 requires changing cartridge guides and the different styles of barrels need
different forearms and tenons. All I worked on were post 64 models and a Sears house brand.

Just keep the old barrel, when you fit the new one,you can always reinstall it if necessary........or hand it on with the gun to the next owner.

You just got to know how to search ebay! I searched "winchester 32 barrel", and several come up.
