    Mold for a .375 H&H?

I am looking to get an inexpensive mold to try for my .375 H&H, under 2000 fps. This will be used for plinking and whitetails. I am looking at the Lee 379-250-RF mold, the # is 90324.. Also, what diam. sizer do you recommend. .377 or .378 Any input would be helpful. Thanks, Stu

Here are a few examples of moulds that will work in the .375 h&h
    Lyman 375-249-2 375248
    LBT 375-300fn
    LEE 381268-pb-6

I've used #375449 in the .375 with fine results, both without the GC in mild loads with 13 grains of Red Dot, 700X or Bullseye, and in near full-charge loads, with the bullet cast from wheelweights, water dropped as cast frosty from the mold, gaschecked, lubed with 50-50 Alox beeswax and loaded with 65 grains of IMR4350 or 60 grains of IMR4064 with 2 grains of Dacron fiber fill tucked loosely into the case neck.

Correct diameter should be based on a chamber throat pound cast, NOT by slugging barrel groove diameter. The largest bullet diameter which chambers freely, and in which a loaded round may be extracted without firing, showing no telescoping back into the case, but with light contact from the origin of rifling is best. For most rifles .379"

The 13 grain Bullseye load approximates velocity of the .38-55 blackpowder load and is a mild, accurate and effective deer load to 100 yards. In most rifles it shoots close to point of aim at 50 yards when the rifle is zeroed at 100 yards with the 4350 load or 250 yards with the Speer 235-grain HotCor spitzer with 85 grains of 4350 or 75 grains of 4064.

I'll be running the NOE 378-275-FN for starters. . .just as soon as the rifle's built. . .

Had good luck with it's big brother 418-350-RF with 1800 fps loads in a Rigby, so figured it was worth laying in the mold when Al ran them.

The 378-275 runs great in my .375 Ouch&Ouch at just shy of jacketed velocities. Do tell more about your 418-350-RF? I have a .416 RemMag that needs feeding...

why not go up to 300-350 grain bullets?

I recall about 3 years ago that I queried NOE about making molds for the .416 cal. family. He replied back with a carbon copy of the RCBS 350 grain mold. I have excellent results with my RCBS mold cast boolets in my .416 Taylor.Robert

He double crimp grooved it to work in both the Rigby and Remington. I made the error of getting it in 2 PB / 2 GC format. Shoulda got all 4 holes GC.

I shoot the same bullet in my 375 Win and 375 Ruger, but I wouldn’t call it cheap. The cheap option is a plain base from Lee.

I've been shooting cast in my M70 three six bits for quite a few years now. For plinking and small game out to 50 yards or so I prefer a .375 RB (either my own cast or a Hornady) TL's in LLA and dried thoroughly loaded over 4 gr of Bullseye (no wad or filler). That runs right at 900 fps.

A while back I started load development with the PB Lyman 250 gr bullet with Bullseye (no wad or filler) and have found 10 gr is working well out to 100 yards right at 1100 fps. I have shot them "as cast" and TL'd with LLA and also sized .378 and lubed with 2500+. Both shot the same.

A good "mid range" load is the 375449 cast of COWWs + 2% tin loaded over 36 gr AA5744 (no wad or filler). They run 1860 fps and it is a very accurate load. Should prove deadly on deer, pigs, etc. These are sized .378 and lubed with 2500+.

For my "heavy" practice and hunting load I use the same 375449 loaded over 49 - 50 gr 4895 with a Dacron filler. That load runs 2150 - 2200 fps and accuracy is also excellent. It is good for elk, bear, deer and pigs, etc. These are sized at .378, use Hornady GCs and lubed with 2500+.

I would have to also say the 375449... I did a bunch of work on this round for Brownbear. And other big Alaskan critters.. my Gurl took a 60 inch plus with the 375 H&H and was able to handle the recoil and get good enough to take that moose at about 140 yards. The moose would not turn in heavy heavy brush and only presented a head on shot. My gal shot wearing pink fuzzy slippers standing in about 1 ft of marsh, and hit through the long nose, and the boolit went through the nose into the chest and the bullet was recovered on the back hip just under the hide. DRT. The huge moose, but that 375449 did it’s job. Good penetration.
