I got one. Haven't shot it much. When I did shoot it I shot P/b on top of 90 gr of Gorex. My 58s recoil is about the same as my 54 cal and too a 54's Ball has a velocity advantage over a 58 cal.
Did take aim at a trotting deer once going straight away from me with the 58. On that occasion the "Deer out ran the ball."

The only benefit I would say the stock B/bore 58 has_ is it's a bit more comfortable shooting than a stock renegade because of its factory installed recoil pad. (so you know the B/bore & renegade stocks are not interchangeable although they sure do look like they would.) Shooting elk I believe either caliber is outstandingly good for the purpose. Than again hunting dangerous game? (Griz-Brown bear) the 58 would undoubtedly up-stage a 54 in a close proximity circumstance.

Bobby Hoyt recently made a .58 drop-in barrel from scratch for a Renegade flintlock, and it shoots great.

I have a Numrich 58 cal underhammer. It makes fast work of small trees and fence posts with a minie ball.

I am tempted to have Hoyt turn my 56 SB into a 58 RB rifled barrel.

    LAGS,
Been pondering the same thing. Got a slightly scaly .56 that might oughta become a .577 for minies and round ball.
Been thinking that a fast enough twist for putting a flat base plug in the minie molds (like a maxiball) could be interesting.

I sent him a unfired TC 56 SB and it now is a 62 smoothy ,waitin on a .610 slow twist that used to be Renegade 1-48 ho-hum .50 cal . Bob does great work!

Had one. Never got near the accuracy from it that I did from the .54 Renegade. Tried rb, maxi, REAL, minies in three styles. Nada.

Took me almost 30 plus years of looking before I found one to actually put my hands on. Not many of them made and they don't seem to come up for sale very often. One in really good shape just might be pricy
