    Lead and tin bars?

I had a friend gift me this and will bring me more. I think this soldering bar indicates that it is 50% lead and 50% tin. I tried a image search but only get similar looking items with that description.

I suppose my question is how do Incorporate this into my casting? Do I assume that I cut a piece off knowing that only half is tin and add it to my pot. So a 2 ounce piece would have an ounce of tin?

There is a free alloy calculator available to download thats on this site. It will help you calculate mixing alloys. Thats a good score, be sure to thank your friend.

Yep 1/2 & 1/2 is 50/50 tin/Pb and a most excellent score. Especially in the commercial form that makes identification easy and positive.

Download the alloy calculator from the sticky in this forum. You would just enter the weight of lead on one line. The weight of 50/50 solder on another and it will provide a total weight with resulting percentages of tin, antimony, copper etc. Neatest thing since twist off beer bottle caps.

Calculator is Excel spreadsheet, if you don't have Microsoft Office or Excel on your computer the calculator works fine with Apache Open Office and that is free software. https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html I have open office for my home computer and MS office for work, calculator works in both.
Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.
