    Downloading Powders

I called Hodgdon yesterday asking if I could download CFE BLK and LilGUN.
Knowing the concerns about downloading H110/296 and being aware this two are ball powders as well, I had some concerns.
The lowest listed load for these two powders were in the 2300-2500 FPS range.
I was wanting to use these powders in the 1400-1800 FPS range in my 218 Bee with 45gr boolits.
The tech says to NOT download them below the recommended starting load.
These powders as well as H110/296 burn best when there is a full case and high pressure.
He grabbed his Lyman Cast Bullet manual and gave me some recommended loads for 45 gr boolits with there powders.
I told him I had that manual and thanks for his time...dale

You did the smart thing Dale. The manufacturer will give sound advice and be conservative.

I only go below minimum starting loads with powders I can "trust". HP38/231, Clays, Bullseye, etc

BTW, Alliant has always been very responsive as well. There is no need to "wing it" when the information is out there.

I am one who is always happy to read about those who take the time to actually go ask the manufacturer about an issue they are having, or info they are seeking, before they jump to conclusions & have a bad result from not checking with the ones who make the product beforehand.

Glad to see you did so & got what info you were looking to find!

Thanks for sharing your experience here!

Has anyone considered a "Sticky" on powders safe to / not safe to use reduced loads with?
