    New Project!

Found this for not too bad a price and MO goes in the mail today. Given I already load for the 8.15 and have played with a few Schuetzen rifles this one shouldn't take much to get going. None of my others have been this nicely engraved or carved. It oughta be here next week.

I have sights for the rifle. However, the rear sight shank is larger than the base. It could easily be resized to fit by a machinist or gunsmith.
Does the diopter sight and dies in the picture on the post come with the price listed?

PoRJect...boy was I with it this morning.

Thanks Jim and rk. Yeah Jim, it is, ain't it....lol!!! Ya oughta see what I have my sights set on next. We're selling a piece of ground so you can probably imagine. Thing is "She Who Must Be Obeyed" has ok'ed a vintage sports car I've wanted since I was a little boy and first saw one....soooo....I'm walking down the edge of a razor blade trying to decide....fickle fool that I am.

JB, yes sir, the sights come with it. I couldn't find a key when I bought my other one and ended up making an open end wrench to work. Just filed it out of a piece of angle iron. Hopefully this key will fit both. I think most were the same size.

Dropped the check in the mail this morning and the seller tells me he's received my FFL guys information. Good to go!!!

Beautiful Aydt! Not many that elaborately engraved, and most are missing their rear sight, and often the front too!
Keys for the sights can be found at clock shops usually. But clock shops are almost as tough to find these days! We have a clock repair shop here and I took the sight down to check for a clock key, and they found one easily. Price was under $5 too.

Thanks marlin. I think if I were rating it I'd put it a bit above average. I have the first two volumes of "Alte Scheibenwaffen" and some of the works of art in there make this one look like poor relations.

I am lucky both rifles I have had sights with them. My first one had no key so I cut and filed a double ended, open end wrench to fit. Then someone tells me about the clock shops and those keys. You're right, there aren't many clock shops left and the only one I know of is 80 miles from me.

About a year ago I came across one of the sights that goes on the barrel rib. Only one I've ever seen for sale and I gladly gave the guy the $100 he was asking. It looks brand new....and I can't hit spit when using it.....lol! I think the notch is simply too small for these days. I believe every German rifle I've bought in the last 20+ years, and that's a few, has had that small notch.....and it is beyond me why they left it that way and what they could see with it. Maybe they were all young guys with perfect vision. They sure ain't for guys in their mid-60's and old, tired eyes. I've opened up all of mine save that Schuetzen rifle sight.

Believe it or not, Walmart sells universal clock keys! And for $8 they usually have six keys in one and will likely fit any gun's rear sight!

Seriously? Good grief, whooda thunk it. I will check to see if ours has them next time I'm in there.....on one of my semi-annual jaunts to Wal-Mart.

I'd guess they wont, but if it isn't a special trip in, I'd check. I usually have online items sent to the store for free and drop by when I get notice to pick them up in store.

Ahhh...I understand now what Wayne meant. I was unaware such was an option. Have to remember I was hauled kicking and screaming into even owning a computer for business sake.

Same here. I have a love hate relationship with computers, and don't know how to do tricky stuff with them. Also get indigestion when they don't do what I think they should. But love that I can find information on them so easily. I don't open all my gun books nearly as often as I used to!
