Just how does it stack up to the rest? The magazine looks better then anything offered by any other factory.

After looking at all the other budget rifles available, I bought an XPR Compact in 7mm08 for my wife. The gun shoots great and functions flawlessly. My other choices were the Ruger American and T/C Compass. I bought it last year when they had a $75 rebate. My second choice would be the Ruger American Predator, which I believe has a different magazine from the standard American.
The main advantage from looking is the magazine on the XPR is a single stack like on the ruger americans in 450 bushmaster.
That's the most important feature between them all. I HATE the rotary magazine and REALLY HATE the cheap plastic locking mechanism that ruger is using. But love my ruger rifles.
CDNN website and catalog often has them at a significant discount. Petzal of Field and Stream likes them for a hunting rifle. See his comments by searching for "Gun Nuts."
