I have a Hammerli free pistol. The cleaning kit came with a nylon brush and a fiberglass cleaning rod. Of course it is a .22LR. A new Hammerli is around $2200. Just saying.

How would bronze scratch steel when it is softer than steel?

Good question. I've talked to guys that worried about a Bronze brush wearing out the barrel faster.
When I asked if it was worse than a few jacketed bullets running down through the bore, it gets real quiet.

On the outside of a barrel, I'd guess that the brush just 'disturbed' the finish more than it actually scratched the steel.
