    300 bo cast bullet powder

got some brass coming and orderd a 155 2r mold. Ive got a pile of different powders. Whats the one to start with for supersonic loads with that bullet checked and coated and pushed. What about primers? pistol or rifle? Going to be shot out of a 16 inch ar.

H-110 2400 4227 Li'l Gun These are the powders that you see mentioned most often. 1680 is all the rage but I din't see how it's all that great myself. I've been experimenting with 300-MP with decent results. Since you didn't mention trying to shoot suppressed then you don't have to worry about gas volume.

I've never used pistol primers with Blackout.

I believe AA1680 is mostly used for subsonic loads, especially in an AR platform to get proper cycling.

I want to try AA1680 but would have to order it so I'll just stick with 296/H110. A 150gr at 1800 fps is nothing to sneeze at. It seems the guys having cast success are using PC. My 16" 1-7" likes j-words the best. My current deer load is the 150gr Speer FP and it works as a repellent because I never see deer when I carry it!

I've have an accurate load in my 16" AR. Consists of the Lee 311-155, sized .311, pushed by 18gr of CFE Black. Seated to 1.980 If I powdercoat it, the nose is too fat to chamber. Just lubed in lube sizer. I'm gonna try HiTek coating them and see if they will chamber.

    Lloyd,

I'm shooting that bullet and the NOE 310-195 MX2-30H over 15.7 of Reloder 7 and its all I could ask for.

For what it’s worth, one of the loads I’m playing with is with Lee’s c309-160-R (166gr actual) with AA2230 and CCI400 primers.
Checked and powder coated sized to .309, COAL 1.940” which puts it in the upper lube groove.
    18.0gr averages 1492fps in the 16” barrel and 1371fps in the 11 1/2” barrel.
I recently upped the charge to 18.5gr and the 7 1/2” barrel gets 1315fps.
These loads grouped good and had no problems cycling in three different AR’s.

By the way, not all magazines are created equal.
If you have a problem with round nose bullets chambering, swap the magazine to a different manufacturer. Certain manufacturers feed lips are longer than others.
For me, the regular ole 20 round GI magazines have yet to create any problems.

Ok I looked and have about 10lbs of 110 so that's going to be my choice. So should I use a small rifle mag or standard primer or can I use small pistol primers. Gun will be an ar15. Ive shot small pistol mag primers with absolutely no problems in 556 ars. What primer have you had the best luck with using 110?

I shoot mainly super sonic jacketed out of my two .300blk ARs. I’ve been using either S&B small rifle or CCI #41 with good results. I’d think that pistol primers would be a bit soft and worry about slam fires.

So, that is the exact problem I ran into. They would sometimes chamber and sometimes not, played with OAL and got a little better but not good. I have an NOE 311414 clone on the way that I think will fix that problem.

I love H110, but have had issues with rapid pressure spikes in the 300 BO. I could be bullet fit, but I am not sure yet. Out of all the loads I have been testing, H110 is the only one that has blown a primer and the other 4 in the ladder group still had curved edges on the primer. I went to 4227 and have not had any primer failures and I am still right around 1800 fps with a 165 cast Lee.

H110 needs a start load of 10 to 12% below max and it needs a good crimp to build pressure. If not crimped well, it will not perform well. I did get SD's in the high single digits and low double digits with it, but did not feel good about how it reacted in the AR. I will try it again when my 311414 clone comes in, it will be a better fitting bullet. Without nose sizing the Lee I was using just had to much engagement in the barrel.

Shooters World Blackout (Lovex D063-02) is a cheap(er) AA 1680 "equivalent". Some people on a 300 BO forum claim they actually like it better.

With the lee 312 155 boolit I use 15.3gr of H110/W296, cycles carbine length and pistol length gas. I don't remember right off the velocity but I think it was low 1,800's.

    Tsubaki,
Your gun likes the GI type magazines but I got nothing but jams out of them. I tried Magpul and everything has worked great since. It just goes to show that every gun is different and I would suggest to anyone that's having problems with jamming should try a different type of magazine before giving up. I love my Blackout, it is an ideal cartridge for cast bullets due to the velocity range it works in. A lot of guys are using powder coated bullets but I have stuck to lubed and sized bullets as I'm kind of old school.

Lancer magazines are said to be the most forgiving with cast bullets.
