Welcome from Kentucky. I suggest you get a copy of the lyman 46 and 47 handbooks. There is some real treasures in there in the technical articles.

I personally dont buy into that "you wont save any money" thinking others do. I dont shoot that much more. I am however able to shoot more if I desire. I do acquire new equipment from time to time, but I dont spend a fortune on it either. I buy mostly used stuff and dont count that in my cost of ammo. The same as I didnt count the cost of a socket set when I started repairing my car. Course this is mostly my own way of thinking.

There aint nothing wrong with trying to push the velocity limit with cast, or trying to reproduce factory ballistics, if thats what you want. Thats part of what I do, but most others dont.

Dont be afraid to ask questions here, even if they are "dumb". Some folks will roll their eyes and suggests mountains of reading instead of answering you, and some will answer you and encourage you.

Hey BigAl, we play with some of the same stuff.

For all practical purposes you could just as well call me Red Dot Fan Boy.

.32sw long with the lee .314 90 gr truncated cone over 2 grains of Red Dot is a winner in both my H&R 732 2.5" double action revolver, or my Ruger 6" NM Single Six in .32H&R mag.

For the 7.62x54r I like 10 grains of Red Dot under the lee .312 185 gr Gas checked. But have gone as low as 4 and that little .314 90 gr for gallery loads.

I also do a whole slew of pistol loads with Red Dot from 7.62x25 to .45acp.

Does not take a lot, easy on the pocket book, tends to be quieter than most.

If your test cases come out sooty go up half a grain. Had to do that in the .40SW and .45acp. Went a touch too low.

Rock on man! Your in for a wild ride!

Interesting on the red dot for pistol. Going to experiment with it. I been getting into tite group for pistol. I like it. i started my loading with 700x. That stuff metered bad. I was glad to get away from it. Although after polishing my powder dispenser internals the metering did improve.

I tell my wife that with my reloads, I can feed the family, thereby saving lots of money. About the same amount I save by catching fish.

Welcome Al to this family of do-it-your-selfers. You can get advice on just about anything here if you ask in the right place. Of course we are mostly reloading/shooting oriented, but just about anything goes. Funny part about it Al is that usually someone here will have good advice on just about anything. Yes you do know a fair amount about reloading but you will be learning on almost every turn. This is rocket science, especially when you get into cast stuff.

Yes very true always something to learn. I can't think of a better hobby than shooting and reloading. Great therapy too. Both physical and for keeping the mind sharp.
