    MP 458 SOCOM Thread Three

Third time is the charm, or at least I hope so.
Taking off from the Accurate 350 grain bullet, we have this that can be run as a solid or a hollowpoint. I want both. The penta pin should have serious terminal effect, and the solid will be a hammer. So with no further adieu,

If you want a .458socom specific bullet I'd dump the crimp groove. The crimp groove is going to have to bee seated in the neck on the design in the picture because of the .460" forward of the crimp groove hitting the throat.

If you guys are interested in seeing some more designs I have some I drew up. One being a 341gr (349gr with check and lube) with a small bore rider section for nose support I drew up the other day.

Here is a Bore Riding Secant design. The bore rider is .050" long and .445" diameter. Naked weight for the solid is 341gr, around 349gr with lube and check.(wheel weights) Not sure what the different HP cavities subtract in weight but I would say maybe 10-15gr at the maximum for the biggest one. All same bullet in pic. Solid, Gould style HP, Hex HP and the last is an HP I thought up.

Looks good. Like the penta hp, as always.
    Thoughts from the members?

Searching for a 350-400 grain gas check .458 Socom Boolit. Always been real partial to the round nose flat point look of the Lyman Devastator Molds. Real similar to the Nose design JMort has in the first thread.

This is the same bullet as in the first discussion thread with the same HPs as in post #6. Solid should be around 335-340gr. Slightly smaller metplat as the post #6 bullet at .250" and has a radius at metplat.

This is a Bore Riding Truncated Cone. Same HPs as the previous bullets. Solid is 356gr naked, 365gr with check and lube. Bigger .322" metplat.

I'm ok with either one of dkf's drawings in #6 or #9(my favorite). As long as they feed in a Socom and they should.

This is a Tangent Ogive design with no bore rider with a .304" metplat. Nose reduced to .455" at first band for throat clearance. Same HPs as the previous bullets. Solid is approximately 350gr naked.

These look good they are in the 350 grain range with meplats that aren't too big. This is # 6

Maybe we shouldn't put all of our cows on one trailer yet. Hopefully others will chime in.

Does jmort have more info on the design in post 1? I would like 350 grains with the biggest hollow point my self but my heart isn't set on that.

The only issue I have with #1 is the .460 size driving band. I've had issues with oversized driving bands before. Not sure if it will allow the bullet to chamber w/o interference. A little shorter and smaller in diameter might work? I also don't know the size of the metplat (sp).

Yeah I've had where a clump of powder baked on to the wrong spot kept the cartridge from clambering.
