Just got done cleaning up my old STAR

Just got done cleaning up my old STAR my buddy gave me. It does have a patent base on it but I do believe this machine is older and the base was replaced at one time. The base doesnít the wear of the rest of the machine plus the curved lever on the back makes me think this is an older STAR. Still have to get dies and a punch for it, left a PM to lathesmith so when ever he gets back weíll work something out. Now this doesnít have the o-rings where the die goes so my only concern is will this have wax ooze out. I have a newer one with the o-rings and that doesnít leak, now you only warm the wax enough to work so it may not be a problem. Be awhile before itís up and running, as I said need the dies and need a heated base to start with. I painted it dark blue and that was from pictures of old STARS that I have seen and some of the parts I cold blued. Itíll be very cool getting this old STAR back to life.

I have an old original and there arenít any o-rings on mine either so donít think youíll have an issue.

The O-rings weren't added until Magma bought the rights to the Star machines. Of the dozen Stars I own, only a later Magma has the O-ring grooves, and that is the tall one that takes three tubes of lube in the reservoir.

If you get some leakage, you can use teflon tape to stop most of it.

    Hope this helps.

For my old Star, I got the adapter and dies from NOE to us it also as a push through for powder coated bullets. Is works very well for that also.

JFI : A good match for the paint on the Star Sizer is from the 1988 GMC K-5 Blazer dark blue. Any auto paint shop most likely could obtain it for You .

    Good Shooting
