    PCing steel shot

This not something I am thinking an individual would do. I was just wondering if any of the ammo manufacturers, ever tried it to reduce barrel wear?
    Thanks

I don’t think any manufacture has done it...yet. It’s a worthwhile idea though.

I Hi-Tek coat TSS tungsten shot. It may add some protection to older barrels.

How much is it really needed? Doesn't the shot cup contain the shot? Most of the wads I've recovered don't show any contact between the shot and the bore?
On every question of construction let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.

    Probably not needed at all.

But coating, being elastic, may ease up the squeezed travel through the choke a bit. I'm thinking older double barreled guns here.

interesting hypothesis.. I would guess pattern testing would prove that

I rarely shoot shot these days, but remember when steel first came out, everyone was worried about the steel wearing their barrels. Today I see advertised guns approved for steel for sale. There must be something to it.

WWW.RSTshells.com sells light bismuth loads for old shotguns not approved for steel. I just got 2 boxes of 16 gauge today for my Drilling.
A box of 5 shot for a duck or squirrel or wabbitz and a box of 7 shot for woodcock or quail. Reminder: I you like just going huntin and chutN whatever you come across (hence the Drilling 16 side by side over a 7MM x 57R) then all your shells must be non toxic (ask me how I know...sad..pouting emoji)
I think price is $65 for a box of 25 and RST is a GREAT company. If you plan on chutN 50 shells take the Benelli and Black Cloud steel shot. Take an old shotgun with heritage to chut a few wood duckz then $2.60 per shell is proper respect...just my 2 cents...worth half a farthing

I bet powder coating sum #2's with Smokes powderz wuud work...I just do not see the need to risk it with my old damascus shotgunz or the drilling though.

Ifin someone wants to ship me there old Parker or Fox I wuud be happy to test it with PC steel for you though

Do you have a source for tungsten shot that doesn’t break the bank? I loved hevishot until the price of shot doubled.

    My bank is broken already.

Considering where I live, Buying directly from China cuts the price in half. Tungsten really gives a new life to older 20 gauge shotguns,I use mostly 20's nowadays.

I'm just starting out with my own tungsten reloads.

I will coat steel shot as well if/when I come up with duplex loads.

I powder coat buckshot if for no other reason it makes it easier and safer to handle. After the shot are cast I roll them to make them round then PC and cook on silicone trivets. Just from a Lead Dust Safety issue coated lead shot would be a big plus. As far as coated steel, I don't know, but it would seem it may be a plus for your barrel?
