Swede 33A rolling block in 8x42R

I have been trying to find info on the net on this caliber. Does anyone have one or have experience with this caliber? TIA

that cartridge is an 1880's vintage low velocity piece, similar to the 10.4X47R that i have an 1869 mauser turnbolt in. it would be considered a 200 meter offhand target cartridge, loaded traditionally with black powder for velocities around 1250 fps. somewhere south of 20 grains of H4198 would be your best bet in smokeless, or unique for reduced velocity loads.

I picked up a single shot a while back in 8X48R. I could make brass from 303 Savage but can't locate dies so I'm thinking of lining the chamber to 32-40, much easier to find brass and I have the dies.

What do you charge for a reline John. I'm just up the hill from you.

Most centerfires are running $475 depending on length. Chamber only, $175-$200 if I have the reamer.

John, can you lathe turn a straight taper chamber? Or do you prefer using a reamer to cut it?
I have one that needs a chamber redone, but rifling is good. The reamer for it is pretty spendy, and doubt it would ever be used again in this oddball caliber.

i would cerrosafe cast the chamber and measure the casting to consider against possible donor cases, and consider having john make up a custom forming die. lower cost, and then you have something special.

Lathe turning a chamber? I have done a few many years back when I could not afford a reamer. Also made reamers when I needed to. The easiest reamer to make is a "D" reamer. Most likely I could figure out something. I have a box of old reamers that could be re-ground to a different size.

I'm thinking more and more to get this re-chambered to 32/40.
