    Gas check or swage?

    Ive been casting for a long time now and I have recently acquired a Herter`s 9 ton swage press that uses cast cores and half jackets. The press makes a good boolit but my question is;

    Is a half jacket better than a gas check?

    To me the half jacket just looks like a long gas check. Please let me know what the benefit of the half jacket is over the gas check.

    In my opinion they are about the same. For my swaged lead bullets both 1/2 and ones with a check I use my homemade dip lube and see no difference.

    Thanks for the reply. I understand the need to swage some boolits, but for me the cast pistol and rifle boolits I make should work well with a check if I push them hard.
    The Herter press is nice and fun to use but not very practical for me.
    I will make some boolits and see if I can find an advantage over the cast and checked boolits.
