    Bare encore frame

I had today off work and decided to visit a fairly new gun shop I hadn't been in yet .
A fellow followed me in threw the door with an arm load of stuff .
It is a small shop and I couldn't help but overhear the conversation.
The guy was trying to sell a few things to buy his girl an engagement ring .
One of the the things he had was a bare encore frame , the shop owner wasn't interested in it so I asked how much .

$125 later I came home with this guy , I do already have an encore set up as a rifle so ... throw some inspiration out there for me .
What would you do with it ?

I won't have any cash to throw at it for a few months but hey a guy can dream

I wouldn't have any trouble repurposing it as I have 5 frames and 11 barrels. Throw it my way and I will show it some love!!!!!

If you are a deer hunter, buy a 7mm benchrest 15" barrel, put a nice pistol stock set on it, and enjoy the most effective shotgun zone legal "handgun" there is.

    1] A 7mm 08 barrel for deer sized game
    2] 444 Marlin in a 1 in 20 twist
3] 35 Whelen in as light of stock as you can find to let others shoot
    4] 16 1/2"" 357 Max

7mm08 would make a nice light deer hunting rifle with a light 22"sporter barrel. I have always wanted a Encore but the only thing standing between me and one was money. Around my neck of the woods they are not found very often and carry a pretty price when you do find one. Maybe one day. james

You don't see them that often around here either , for sale anyway .
I couldn't see passing it up for the price even with already having one

I don't do much in the way of hunting except for the occasional varmint . I think paper punching will be its primary duty .
My other encore has a .223 barrel on it so we can rule that out .
Cost effective to shoot is always a plus .

I am going to throw this out there .

Is there any good reason to not do a threaded barrel stub with a nut .
New barrels seem to be between $300-$450 for the most part .
It is a modern action and I don't care about being able to easily use iron sights . Nor will I care if I have to zero a scope when I change barrels .
I have machine tools , I can buy a blank and reamer cheaper then buying a barrel .

Since you are from Ohio, and if you are a deer hunter the choice should be easy,357Max hands down in carbine configuration.

I have dreams about getting a 357Max for deer, being on a fixed income it just isn't in the cards at this time.

    Good Luck and have fun.

Is this what you are talking about that I have pics below?
My uncle had bought this and decided not to use it so he gave it to me. It is a barrel stub kit for a encore.

Yes that's the exact thing I had in my mind .
Barrel blanks are pretty reasonable , chamber reamers can be made instead of bought saving quite a bit of cash .

How to go from bare frame to complete pistol in one fell swoop .

The young man I bought the frame from called me this morning asking if I'd be interested in a barrel and furniture because he didn't have quite enough cash for her ring .

I did the best I could afford for the kid , actually a bit better then I could afford because I spent some of my grocery budget ... good thing I am single
I'm ok with it because he sold me the frame fairly cheap , I gave him $385 for a 14 inch .460 s-w barrel , leopold scope , pistol grip and forearm , 75-100 cases and a set of hornady dies .

That puts me all in a smidge over $500 , the 460 isn't exactly what I'd call a first choice . But he seemed like a good kid and I didn't mind helping him out . And it is still a fairly good deal for me .
If it isn't to swampy wet out I might try to get a couple rounds loaded and try it out

Loaded up twenty rounds , with a starting load .
I won't say it shot a shotgun style pattern but it wasn't that great .
17 went into about a 10 inch circle and I lost three completely .

I'll lay half the blame on myself , didn't have a great rest and not being used to it .
The other half I'll blame on using a plain based bullet when I should be using a gas check .
Might be a good candidate for a plain base gas check instead of buying yet another mold .
I'll give it another try when things aren't so wet out

That would be pretty darn great , thank you .

I knew I needed a gas check , quite frankly I was just in a hurry and stuck with a book load to save some time figuring out a reduced load.

I have some time today and it is supposed to rain so I'll kick back and see if I can come up with a load tame enough for a plain base bullet .

That should be a good one to have. .45 Schofield to .460 S&W capability. I'd shoot a bunch of .45 Colt in it.

I am green with envy. I have been looking for an extra bare Encore frame for years at gun shows. $125!!! Wow!!
