My Grandson earned his first deer today. He sat thru one rainy/wet snow weekend and this last one was single digit mornings in the stand.
Half hour before a fork moved 2 seconds before he could squeeze the trigger. Two does came in, one kept looking back, we waited a few seconds and this fella came in. He was quartering towards us at about 20 yards, first cap failed to fire, second one worked as advertised! Gonna be hard to keep him away from Deer Camp from now on!

I honestly don't know if I could have kept my cool enough to put a 2nd cap on with my 12 year old heart going 1000 mph. Back them I'm sure the shakes would have been bad. Great job and nerves of steel on his part.

Oh, he had the shakes. When the first cap didn't fire, I got the '***' look? Couldn't believe the deer didn't jet, so he put on a new cap and KABOOM! I was thinking he made a mess of the off shoulder? The shot cut across the heart and broke the off side front leg below the shoulder. I told him he was gonna have to keep practicing, to live up to the expectation he created. BTW- 75 grains of Goex 2f and a rb!

I bet the kill shot wasn't as loud as that CLICK. Way to be a hunter! After capping, I always let down the hammer on the cap and push down firmly to bottom it out. The one misfire I had 45 years ago taught me that. The Tom Turkey sure heard it and may still be running!
