Best cast group I have ever shot was with a Lee 155 2R GC sized to .310 on top of 20.0g of 5744. 3 shots @.652 inch at 200yds out of a FN SPR 308 win. 20in barrel.

Wow, having a tough time trying to locate some 5744 in my area. Will look some more to try to alleviate some hazmat fees.

    I still have 14+ pounds of SR4759
No need to try 5744 yet.

Mike Venturino uses 5744 in .30 cal rifles. Check his articles in Handloader magazine. I don't have the issues handy or I would post them.

Late to this thread, but Mike Venturino is correct about the "goodness of fit" between 5744 and .30cal. rifles, metrics included. Furthermore, I've used it for cast bullet loads in all of my rifles (.243Win. - .45-70Gov't.) and have been extremely happy with the results. I.e., excellent accuracy and lower standard deviations (velocity) across the board. The only downsides I can see are the availability and cost of 5744. Btw, it's a tad faster than IMR 4198, meaning where I'd use no more than 24gr. 4198 in my .30-06 with CB's from 160gr. - 203gr., I'd drop down to 20.5gr. or 21.5gr. with 5744.
