    Star Air Assist Mods

A few years back I made a air feed system for the wax on my Star, now it did work but with some trouble. It would get air bound and was a royal pain to bleed the air out, when I did my last batch of bullets it was doing it the whole time. So that was it for me! it was time to buy the unit from Magma, a proven design. Now didn’t know the air cylinder was so cheap or what one to get so I took the hit. But now all the air pressure is on the top as it should be, now here’s the next problem the way my bullet feeder sits over top I can’t lift the unit out with the rod all the way down. So I did a few simple things to fix that so being able to power up the piston makes life a lot easier and maybe it will help someone, so I hope somebody likes this.

You could just lube the seal with a good grease and it will come out lickety-split.

The new Hycar washers are made of a made of some nylon material that is very stiff and over sized and from what I can see no amount of lube will cure that. So I cut it down a little to work, this is the 3rd new style I dealt with.

Two of my Stars have the new type washer/seal and a little Dow O-ring grease is put on it every lube change and the whole thing pulls out easily next time.

My lube seems to lube my air feeds well enough so I can pull the shaft easily enough. No reason to lube the lube shaft.
