    My daughters first deer!

My 16 yo daughter has escorted me on several hunts. She got here hunter safety class this year and her first license. She is 5'3" and slug guns are a chore for her, but she got better as the summer went on. I had told her that I did not really want her going past 50 yards the first time. As luck would have it, she had a 95 yard shot! Placement was not perfect, but did the job on about a 175# doe!

Once we found it, I would not have ever dreamed the reaction of a 16 yo girl and her first deer! She was giggling, crying and hugging the deer and telling it thank you for standing still! The old 870 has now been used for hunting by 4 generations of my family! And, she is completely hooked!!! The funniest part... she asked if she could shoot the deer! I just told her... what are we here for?

It made my day that she thanked the deer. I am disgusted by what I see on some "hunting" shows with the behavior of the hosts. Well done girl.

I know what you mean. What's funny is most of the people hunting have had the deer all but tied to a tree for them.

What a great smile, a great attitude and a great story. Hope the times just get better.

I was at our Minnesota deer camp a few weeks ago, two miles from the Canadian border, for the 44th or 45th year. Had 25 hunters this year. Most are kids, grandkids or in-laws of the original four of us. It is so great to see the kids that were not even born yet back then, now bringing their kids and passing down the traditions. Life lessons not learned in a classroom.

    Thanks again for sharing.
