    Browning A Bolt 30-06

Local gunsmith has a browning Abolt in 30-06 thats been setting a while. I might could work a deal on it, but I have my reservations. He said their good solid rifles and dont have any problems normally. Anyone have any opinions on them? How do they do with cast? Both reduced and up towards the jacketed velocity limit.

Sure seems like a nice rifle.

Was it the A-Bolts that had the salted stocks? I know it was one of the Brownings, but misremember which one.

Wayne- the Brownings with salt wood were the FN Mauser and possibly Sako action versions- predating the BBR- A-Bolt series.

The A Bolts are usually good accuratre rifles, and the last few years they are actually glass bedding them, the action and recoil lug. Before that they were using a hot melt, semi hard glue to bed them. In my experience running a shop for years, zeroing dozens of rifles every year, a cheap A bolt usualy shoots as good as a higher end one.

The guy is asking 450.00 and its got a walnut stock with checkering. I didnt inspect it thoroughly. He said it was an 800.00 rifle. He bought it with a large collection of guns a while back and its been in there a while. He said round here brownings arent real popular, neither are 06's and thats why its still there.

That's a shame, but good for you, no flies on the 06 or the Browning, I would rather have that Browning than a Ruger American or Savage Axis much better gun in all respects.

I havent bought it yet, but I may if its there after Christmas time. I expect it will be, because its been there over six months now. Its in solid used shape. Couple dings on the stock, but is walnut and has cut checkering. Its nice and light, with a sporter barrel, no sights, no scope or rings either.

Thanks for everones opinions on it. I've been wanting a bolt gun to play with, and an 06 particularly.

A rifle nut friend of mine likes his and he's particular. He had another in 25-06 he wanted to trade to me but it had a BOSS on it and only a 22" barrel. They are nice rifles but I've never owned one. Buy it!
    So I got a Tikka 25-06 with a 23" barrel

I’ve got a newer X Bolt Hunter and it’s a fine shooting rifle. Many firearms are made internationally and shipped back here for sale. Miroku in particular makes fine rifles and shotguns

A friend came by the other day with a Browning X bolt 270 stainless, Maple stock & octagon barrel.

I just picked up a used one today. A-Bolt made in 2005 in 7mm-08. I sure hope it works well, seems to be some love/hate for them. I think the 30-06 would be a great cast bullet gun.

...or go here and get an Xbolt for $449 and stack a rebate (varies) on it. They are also Northern Firearms on GB.
