    Oversized bullet

I have a barrel on order with a groove to groove diameter of .620, and i have a bullet mold that casts bullets .625 and some swaging stuff to make jacketed bullets .624. Would these bullets be too big to push through my barrel, or will they be alright to shoot?

Slug the barrel when you get it. I doubt it will be exactly .620.

I think I would get a sizer in .622"-.623". I doubt if there would be any problems using a lead bullet even .005" over groove diameter, but I would start smaller, mebbe .002" over and see how that performs...

I read somewhere (J.Brennan's "Cast Bullets..."?) that it was common for that Schuetzen shooters often went .005"+ over for their cast bullets...

It is a 20 gauge on steroids. And i am building the rifle first and if i the recoil isnt too terribly bad i do have plans to file a tax stamp with the atf for a pistol version and have already drawn up the plans to machine the pistol in the same caliber. It should be equivalent to a 600 nitro express give or take.

Single shot pistol? I'm guessing ice packs between follow up shots so semiauto would be too much.

Yeah it would be a single shot underlever style pistol with an 8" barrel. Possibly a muzzlebrake, i haven't decided yet. The rifle i am planning on shooting 3" and 3.5" cases, the pistol would most likely be 2.5" and 3". I currently have a mold to case 550gr bullets and 700 grain bullets. And if they aren't too bad i plan on getting a mold for 900-1000gr. The velocity i want to get out of the rifle is about 2800-3000 ft/s. And probably half that in the pistol.

With all due respect, I think you are hallucinating with your velocity expectations. Look up .50 BMG ballistics for a reality check.

Texas by god. Look up the 12 gauge from hell. That is what I am shooting for. I have talked to one of the people who came up with it and he has given me some advice and load data for it. I dont know the max velocity he has achieved with his 12 ga. But i have seen posts where he got 3900 fps with sabots in it.

Wayne smith. I guess i will find out. I have shot some very stout 12 gauge loads from a lightweight gun. 3 ounce slug over 120gr of black powder. Ive shot both barrels of a double barrel 12 with magnum slugs, buckshot, and turkey load and both barrels with any of it couldnt even come close to the recoil of the one round from my single.

AHH to be young/resilient and not have an abused body again

Now I'm happy if I can get up without sound effects

Sounds like you would like a 50 AE I loaded up some for a friend (for predator defense he used it to kill a charging Griz in Alaska that wanted the moose he was skinning)

I did a ladder test with H110 and a 380 grn boolit. at around 30 grns of H110, that thing was plain brutal. An ejected case came back and blackened both his eyes [he ALWAYS wears safety glasses now LOL].

I used to have a 50 desert eagle but i traded it in for a ps90 for the wife. I have worked up some pretty brutal loads in my 500 magnum. And i have a 45-70 derringer that is the most punishing pistol i have ever shot. I even had a friend shoot it and it jumped out of his hands and hit him in the head hard enough to make him bleed.Click image for larger version.

Sabot is the key word there I believe. I Don't think you're going to get a 700 plus grain bullet up to 3000 feet per second from a brass 20 gauge case.

Grmps - It really helps reduce the sound effects when you cram your fingers into your ears and chant "LA LA LAAAA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" over and over, while attempting to stand; Down side is that your hands won't be supporting you, so you can end up face down on the floor. So MAYBE I'll try earpro next, with the chanting. I'll keep you apprised :P

Greglaroche i dont have any videos on youtube and dont have any kids. You are thinking of big daddy hoffman. That video is what made me want to get this. But his gun has much bigger and heavier grip than mine. Neither of these are my gun. Just posting to show how small my grip is compared to his.Click image for larger version.
