    99 Savage Rebore To .338?

Reexamining an old project, having a 99 Savage (.308) rebored to .338 Federal with a slightly longer case neck for cast.
Will be able to shoot standard length .338 brass. Same dies, same data. Just a little more neck length.
Or maybe the chamber just gets the usual neck length...

So, any yall looked at turning a 99 into .338 Fed?
    Anybody already shooting one?
The only negative I'm aware of is the limitations on over all cartridge length.
Anyone know of other hick ups, bad points or rough spots?

The magazine rotors are somewhat caliber specific, but I think the jump from .308 to .338 is doable. Goodsteel did one for someone on here a few years back to .358.

I got the itch for one and just bit the bullet and payed what I had to for one of the 99 Brush Guns in .358 Winchester, probably as close to the perfect deer rifle as exists.

    99 Savage Rebore To .338?

Just have JES rebore it to 358 and call it a day. This is what’s done to mine. There are a plethora of bullet designs available but your search will start and stop w/ the RCBS 35-200 or one of its clones.

Couldn't agree more, I have killed many deer with mine. Paid $225 OTD for it------about 40 years ago. As to the 338 Fed., I have a 99E .308 that I have always wanted to make into one, just never got around to it. Doubt if anything could tell the difference between the two when shot with them. 021

Jes will do the .338 or the.358 perfectly. The .358 is easy to love IMO but with a tad more effort the .338 could be a CB star as well. Pick one.

When first doing the planning in 2011 was looking at improving the .338 neck length for cast.

In 1981 had a 788 chambered for the 28 Long Neck using .270 or 30-06 cases run full length through 7-08 forming.
That neck length was perfect for the 7mm 168 grain mold that RCBS sold back then with groove diameter contact for almost the full length of the boolit. Worked great. Utilizing the available brass length in the .338 and still keeping it jacketed friendly is something I had to examine.
