Just realized in my haste to post those pictures i made a mistake in the powder charge, charge i used was 50grs of 3031 not 53grs. It was interesting when i chronographed those loads, the PC Gould boolit averaged 1,800fps and a jacketed 300gr remington averaged 1600fps, a full 200fps slower with the same powder charge. Now that hunting season is done i will experiment a bit and slow that bullet down a bit more as long as it still shoots well, it really is going too fast and while it makes for a dramatic expansion it might not be so good on a less than perfect shot. It will be interesting to see what things look like when i get the hide off this guy, shot went in a bit forward of the onside shoulder as he was quartered to me quite strongly and there is no exit that i could see but the off side shoulder feels like it was torn up. Will know later today when i skin it.

I've always read that whitetail deer are bigger bodied the farther north you go, that one makes me believe it.

I for one will be interested in seeing the revered boolit, if possible. What alloy did you use?

Nice deer! Sounds like a my kinda hunt, just a great day in the woods! Like the G ould bullet here too, interested to see a picture if you recover it. I slowed mine doin to about 1600/1650 too, was pretty nasty at 1800 with my soft alloy.

Wow, what a hunt for a trophy dear! I'd think that boolit snuck out somewhere unless it got as big as a pancake.

I found out from shooting hollow points into snow banks (45 ACP) that powder coated boolits didn't expand as much as a noncoated boolit. (same load and alloy)

Great score! I've been wondering about PC bullet performance on game.
Looking forward to the graphic photos as well as the bullet if you find it.
I've never recovered a cast bullet from any critter shot from any angle.
I can't complain of too much penetration though, as I've never lost a kill either.

hit him pretty far forward on the left side, he was quartering towards me a bit and had a tree blocking most of his chest so had to work with what he presented. Bullet, or at least a smaller portion of it did exit the right shoulder, looks like expansion was violent and immediate, OK in this case but had he been headed away from me it would have been a different outcome. I have tested these boolits in water jugs and at these speeds most of the bullet remains in the first two jugs, with just a little button of the base continuing on. I will slow them down a bit and see how they shoot, this particular Marlin seems to do better with heavier loads, with jacketed bullets it will place 3 shots into a large hole @ 100 yards most days, this load with the cast bullet was about a 2"-2.5" load, more than enough accuracy for the type of hunting i do. Next year i may skip the hollow point and try a softnose cast boolit in the 45-70, I have tried all different manner of tricks to enhance expansion and nothing works as well as a pure lead nose in my opinion. I know someone will chime in and say expansion isn't needed with big cast boolits and this is true, same could be said for running water or other modern niceties, but I have shot a lot of deer with cast bullets over the years and expansion helps get them to the ground quicker in my experience. In my .348 i have experimented with all different alloys, nose shapes, tin foil in the nose, hollow points, and nothing comes close to a soft nose about 25%-35% of the boolits over all length for stopping power and penetration.
