Buy or hunt????

Just wondering how many go out and hunt for their Thanksgiving turkey?????

i processed 7 turkeys yesterday that my wife raised from chicks.

we're good for turkey at the moment.

we have a big flock of wild ones but we prefer to let them stay on bug patrol and use the ones we raise for the dinner table

The grocery store chain we patronize typically gives away turkeys of their store brand or discounts for other suppliers turkeys for customers on their membership list if you accumulate enough points by buying enough groceries over a certain period of time.
Before I retired, my employer gave away turkeys for years but stopped that practice in favor of gift cards. I was surprised to receive a gift card in the mail from my former employer last week as a token of their appreciation for years of service to retirees.

Essentially, I don't believe we have paid for a Thanksgiving turkey in many years, possibly ever.
I don't recall any previous employer that didn't give out turkeys at Thanksgiving.

I was only able to take one bird, Thanksgiving of 1996.
About 18 months before I got busted up.

Was sure different then a Domestic Turkey.

Supermarkets around here used to give away free frozen Turkey's. Either spend enough money or buy one, get another free.
But that stopped at least 3-4 years ago.

I'll buy and eat a store bought turkey any day over wild one .yeah I've killed and ate them many times never taste as good or as moist as a farm raised bird .

I prefer to eat wild turkeys but I don't always get a chance to kill one before Thanksgiving. So, we had domestic turkey today.

My wife has about 50 free range chickens. The wild turkeys show up around the first week of Nov. They winter over in our second pasture close by the chicken food. She likes wild turkey and picks one out each year. I like ham. Lots of leftovers as we cook each

I much prefer wild turkey. Lay bacon across the breast when you roast it, comes out nice and moist.
I've not shot one yet this season, we have until Jan. 1. I hadn't wanted to disturb the deer until I got one. I did shoot a doe this morning so now the turkeys are in danger.

Way to cheap to buy a farm raised turkey anymore. Visited our Costco today and they were selling fresh birds that ranged from 19-24 pounds for .99 a pound with a $15 rebate. We bought two 19 pounders for under $5 each. Now we are set for at least another 6 months. I seen some shoppers leaving with entire carts full of birds.

I agree totally. they don't taste any more like a store bought turkey then a goose does. Ill eat them but there sure not my favorite bird to eat.

I bought my last bunch of groceries on my gf's grocery card so she got a free turkey. Really nice meal.
