    Carnauba wax in it?

I have recently noted that there is a black sealing wax applied to my bottle of Knob Creek bourbon. I know that a previous distiller had red carnauba wax on its bottles (very useful for including in bullet lube) until recently changing over to a plastic sealing substance, so I am wondering if the good folks at Knob Creek may still be using Carnauba in this sealing wax. If any one has knowledge of this I would appreciate your input. Thanks GWW

I would send them an email and asking kindly, after telling them how good their bourbon is.

    To whom it may concern.

Your Bourbon is of the finest I have indulged in. My friends and I after consuming large quantities were wondering what is the wax that is used to seal the fine bottles of Knob Creek. Again, please keep up the good work on your fine Bourbon
    Thank you

Use a Girly name and have a Girl friend kiss seal the letter with bright Red lipstick. You will get a reply back!

Wax seal bottles is a gimmic, if they really wanted to 'seal' it, they'd use pure beeswax, but that's difficult for the end user to remove.

Whatever they use? it is surely a blend of waxes. Pure carnuba would be too hard. They want something not too hard or too soft, yet easy and clean to remove. Carnuba would give the blend the desired hardness and brittleness making it easy to remove cleanly.

My bet is the blend is a proprietary secret and they won't tell you the formula.

I'm interested in finding this out as well. Maker's Mark has put the red in my Felix lube for more than 20 years now. I was very disappointed when they went to that plastic seal junk.

Cheese wax is a formulation of paraffin and microcrystalline wax, and food grade coloring.

Thanks for the responses, but it seems like the question is a mystery.

Easier to buy a pound of real carnuba wax flakes and not have to wonder exactly what is in it.

The bag I bought will last me the rest of this life and and probably most of my grandkid's lives.

I just stuffed a few wax wrappers into the lubrisizer, I supposed they would melt and blend with whatever was in there at the time... I did this off and on for a few years. Nothing scientific, nor was there a lot of wax at one time. The cheese was good, but I seldom get it anymore.....
