    Stuffing or Dressing.

    So,

    Thanksgiving ??? TURKEY ???

What do you do at your house ?

Do you STUFF your Turkey ?

Or, do you make the Dressing in a Casserole dish ?

    We stuff our Turkey.

That gives you a Nice Moist Stuffing with a richer flavor.

Or do you prefer the dressing with the dry crust on top ?

I prefer the homemade cornbread stuffing my mother-in-law made and stuffed inside the turkey. My wife is getting close to getting the recipe down like her Mother made.

The best turkey Recipe: Stuff 15lb turkey with cornbread bake uncovered, at 325° for 3-3/4 to 4-1/2 hours or until a thermometer reads 180° for the turkey and 165° for the stuffing, basting occasionally with pan drippings. Remove stuffing and set turkey aside for soup stock. Serve stuffing with spiral ham.

This question does not ask anything about Recipes or people who don't know how to carve a turkey or bake and carve a ham.

Please stick to a simple answer, Thank You

    Of course ...Turkey !
Dressing in a great big pan cause we got too many people who want dressing and there wouldn't be enough in a little bird cavity.
Also when you fry the turkey the stuffing doesn't do right inside the cavity ...gets to floating in the hot frying grease...best to not stuff a fried turkey .

    Well,
We like the cornbread stuffing, but as a kid my Pennsylvania raised Grandmother made Sausage stuffing in the Turkey at her house and then my Uncle carved her Turkey and they raced to our house with the Sausage stuffing and half the turkey.

It was good times. 20-30 People, 3-4 different green bean casseroles, 3-4 kinds of stuffing/dressing. Big whole ham, candied yams, baked sweet potatoes, mounds of mashed potatoes.
And the Pies, Apple, Pumpkin, Boysenberry, Cherry. Yeah I know the Boysenberry & Cherry came from frozen fruit. But REAL Whipped Cream, you could tell the Pies were ready, because the mixer started up in the kitchen & every one became quiet for a second.

Bread stuffing! What doesn't fit in the cavity goes in the pan around the turkey and gets basted every hour.

My wife "lightly stuffs" the turkey.....she holds the turkey by the drumsticks and crams as much into that bird that she can with her feet! All kidding aside she stuffs that bird and it is the very best ..... she has been undertaking this for 41 years and I look forward to a lot more of that stuffing!

My Mom's recipe: Make corn bread and bisquick drop biscuits a few days before Thanksgiving and let them stale slightly. Cook the giblets and neck meat in a crock pot starting Thanksgiving eve. Thanksgiving morning pick the neck meat and finely chop the giblets, then mix them with the crumbled cornbread and biscuits along with some finely chopped celery and onions. Add a little sage, salt and pepper. Moisten the stuffing slightly with the giblet and neck stock until it just holds together when pinched. Stuff the bird including the neck and bake. Delicious!

Our tradition is a saged bread stuffing in the bird but there is a casserole dish with more that gets basted with bird juices.

I like corn bread stuffing too but thanksgiving is regular stuffing. My sister will spruce hers up with mushrooms or oysters but regular is preferred by me.

ETA buckwheat Paul I like your wife already.

Walks, the best bit of stuffing is the exposed part that got basted and a bit toasted. As I often am the go to carver any that “falls” on the counter gets disposed of orally by me and whomever might be in the kitchen along with a few choice bits of crispy skin.
