    Missed a good one

Bow hunting before gun season opens. Missed a beautiful 8 point this morning at 40 yards. Arrow hit a limb and landed in front of him. he ran 50 yards into woods. Never raised a flag. Watched him walk away.
I've taken deer with pistol, rifle, crossbow, but never with bow. Disgusted with myself. But the excitement still there. Heart was racing. Fun times.

I killed around 100 with a recurve over 47 yrs. Had to give it up due to shoulder. Keep hunting the hard way. Nothing is more satisfying.

Even if he'd kept running- the world is round, he'd be back.

Since it didn't panic, get spooked, and take off at the speed of light-
he's probably still pretty close there in his territory, and might be back there checking his rubs tomorrow.

At least you fully missed him and learned something about checking shooting lanes. I had a new stick fall down and hang ina shooting lane years back. One doe walk through at 15 yards, drew and shot and watch the arrow vear right behind her and they took off. Then I saw the stick swinging at 10 yards. I couldn't for the life of me understand why I didn't notice it for two hours sitting in that stand. But live and learn. Always best when you learn without wounding one.
