    Snider Carbine deer.

Got a deer this year with another Antique. This time a JC Lord Snider Carbine. Last year was a Martini, year prior was a beaumont. This particular Snider has a mint barrel. I had to file fit a taller (.3" TALLER) front sight as these carbines shoot high. It's 3" high at 100 now. This was the first buck I saw this year. As I have to go to work and season if ending soon.

Nice! Most of the rifles I hunt deer with are a lot older than me, but not that old. Love to see them doing what they were meant to do.

Outstanding! Please tell us about your load. Are you shooting smokeless or black? Round ball or Minie?

My friend Giorgio in Italy uses a .60" round ball in Fiocchi 24-bore shotshell cases cut off to 2" with a card and fiber wad column and 1 gram of an Italian smokeless shotgun powder used for 12-ga. waterfowl loads, which he says has a burning rate similar to US Unique or Herco.

This is the set up. I use 67gr FFg Goex and foam backer to take up space. Its 1050fps if I recall. The mold is from Accurate.

The 2 shot target is my 50meter and the 4 hole target is my 100m 'group' I shot 2 and walked up to see where I was hitting and did another 2 shots. So at 100m range the 2 close bullets are consecutive. The snider sights are somewhat crude so I must have a sighting error when I sit behind it when moving the rifle off the bags. But for the age of the gun i'm not complaining. The top of the target on both pics is the left side.

I've always wanted a Snider even more than a Trapdoor. Now even more so. Thanks for posting it!

There are enough sniders around. Wait for a good bore. Go mark 3 if you can but it's not that important.
Next year is the Spencer Carbine's turn. I will have it ready by then.

    Way to go, I'm envious!!!

I've hunted some over the years with some of my older rifles including a 71-84 Mauser, a Martini Henry and my Spencer but never had the opportunity to take a buck. We've all but given up on deer as they are getting very scarce here.
BIG OR SMALL I LIKE THEM ALL, 577 TO 22 HORNET.

Too bad they don't have a lottery for liberal tags!
    Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer?
