Using Tl314-90- Swc for 32acp

I'm thinking of using this bullet in my steel framed 32acp Ortgies. The bullet takes up a lot of room. From what I've read 1.7gns of Bullseye should be ok, but there is little room between the base of the bullet and the top of the powder. Is this a safe recipe setting the Oal as long as I can and still fit in the magazine and chamber.

i have never used anything that heavy in 32 acp. but have seen data in the 85 to 100 grain listed. you might try handloads.com or get the alliant loading manual ( free upon request). 1.7 of bullseys doesn't sound to stiff to me but i can't be sure. i will say to watch the overall length. wish i could be of more help.

Bullet weight is not the problem. The long shank length of the Hornady .32 S&W revolver bullet intrudes VERY deeply into the powder space and will spike pressure.

Heavy cast bullets which are correctly designed FOR the .32 ACP do not produce a seating depth any deeper than factory 73-grain hardball, about 0.2". Seating depth into the case should not exceed 0.25" because the bullet base will impinge against the internal taper of the case wall and bulge the case so that rounds will not chamber.

In an Ortgies I would have no problem trying that load but I would do 1.5gr to start

I forgot to mention that I can size the bullet to .311. They will chamber fine. I'll try some 1.5 bullseye and if they cycle and shoot well I will be happy. Thanks for weighing in. Much appreciated.

Suggest you slug the barrel before sizing the bullet.

Well, with all the good advice received on this thread, I was successful. I slugged the barrel and determined .311 resized cast were good to go. I used 1.7 gns Bullseye and made them as long as I could and still fit in the mag and feed properly. I shot some factory 71gn rounds and my cast bullets. All functioned perfectly and in comparing factory spent cases to my reloads, I could see no signs of over pressure. The .32 Ortgies can swap between the .32 barrel and the 9mm(380acp) barrel. I think a gun that is designed to fire 380acp can handle a 90 gn .32acp load pretty well. It shot like a dream. Very happy. Thanks everyone.

The lee 93 gr. RN works well for me in .32 acp. I shoot a CZ-70, heavy steel piece. I have seen that guys mill off the base of that mold but I have not seen the need for my purposes. Also have the NOE 314-85 RF (Ranch Dog design). That one is excellent.
