Any enthusiastic users out there? I am low on 2400 and can purchase some 4198 ver reasonably.

Mark, I've used it for years with CB's from the .243Win. -> .45-70 Gov't. and have been quite happy with it. In fact, I just used the last of it in 7.62 x 39mm CB loads for my Type 56 SKS. That said, if you can get it for a reasonable price do so, but I find 5744 gives lower extreme velocity spreads and standard deviations.

Btw, Vincent Spiotti in the latest "Muzzleloader" magazine mentioned your name in his article on a New England rendezvous he attended years ago.

IMR4198 is a great powder, but not a replacement for 2400. 4198 slower ..

Once apon a time not very long ago I bought a 300 blackout. I was a 2400/4227 man. I loaded some w 2400 and some w 4227. 2400 shot real accurate but didn’t function well. 4227 shot good but barrel got hot and functioned about 90 percent. I was really depressed about it that day. I stopped by this middle of no where gun shop in wv where I was shooting looking at their powder selection. Told the guy my delima and he was like “boss try this” handed me a lb of h4198. I went home and looked on the internet and saw it prob would work darn sure did. Worked so great. Year later I got a deal on imr 4198 and it worked just as well

I find I can use it in my 300 aac, 30-30, 35 rem, 45-70, 38-55, 450 bushmaster and we talking doing it well. My accurate loads I use year around in these calibers are all using 4198

I use a lot of IMR 4198 and H4198. For very large, magnum cartridges like the 460 S&W IMR 4198 works well, but is too slow for almost all other handgun cartridges. For loading cast bullets in rifle cartridges both work well. However, they won't replace 2400 for versatility or for handgun uses.

I use H-4198 in the 45-70 with the 405gr Lee slugs...its my goto powder for the heavy weights.

yes, it is the powder for 222Rem, I use it a lot in all the above mentioned, very good in 38-55 (my most accurate load ever) and 32-40

Closest I get to pistols is M1 Carbine. Your thoughts? Too slow?

H110, W296, Accurate No. 9 are all excellent M1 Carbine powders.

I use it for low pressure loads in an old Steven Model 44 in 38-55. It's a fairly weak action so I try to keep pressure as low as possible. 4198 seems to be the best thing I've found for this old gun. Also use in .222, Don't use it in much else though.

My powder in .223 and 7.62x39 plus I've believe I've used it with cast in 35 Remington.

'Go-to' in smokeless loads for 38-55 and 45-70; also works quite well (for me) in 30-30 and 7.65 Arg. Got some 'test' loads for the 91/30 on the shelf that I didn't get around to before the weather began to turn ugly.

I use it for my 218 bee load, with the 45 grain Hornet #1110 SP bullet, and is scary accurate.
