    311165 success

Today was opening of modern gun. I was sitting in my stand overlooking a grown up hay field.

I saw a nice buck chasing a doe about 300 yards away to my front right. He was not coming my way but he was love struck. I was hoping she would run by me with him hot on her heels. After 10 minutes of waiting to see them again I noticed a much smaller buck making his way across the old grown up hay field. He came to me just like he was on a string. At 20 yards he turned broadside and I pulled the trigger on my Rem 700 in 30.06 sending the NOE 311165rf on it's way. I watched him as he took off at a fast walk. He stopped about 20 yards away and folded up.

His antlers are small but he made up for it on weight. Besides at this point in my life I seriously doubt I'll ever have another head mounted. It just isn't as important to me as it once was.

Nice buck! Is that bullet a clone of the Ranchdog bullet?

Love the scenery. What part of Arkansas are you in ? I help a rancher friend of mine up close to Maynard . One of his properties the North fence of the property is the border line and other side is Missouri . Lots of hills and trees . The deer I’ve seen in that area are not as big as the one you put on the ground , very nice bodied deer .

No pics of wounds but it was a through and through entering behind the last rib on the right, busted the lower part of the heart and exited left shoulder. Entry was bigger than .30 and exit was about quarter size. The NOE 311165 is their version of the ranch dog design.

I used it in the 30.06 last year to get this buck

And I used it in the 30.30 for this one

The big one dropped straight down. Last year's buck dropped straight down and the one yesterday went about 20 yards.

    Located central AR.

Yep same here on mounting deer trophy, just can’t spend that kind of money, when I can just cut antlers off and hang on side of barn. Tho I have when younger, cost then was $125 with hooves for rifle display. Wouldn’t know at todays prices what that would cost. Anyway nice deer and story enjoy the feast, love that sausage and jerky.

Nice deer. To this day I have yet to see a recipe that uses the antlers.

On the other hand I’ve stuffed an awful lot of shooter bucks into 32 mm hog linings

Well done! I like big racks as well as anyone else here, but I will take any decent sized buck that gives me a clean shot. A big rack is just frosting on the cake.

I've killed one with the original Ranchdog and it's a good bullet. You've taken some nice bucks there.

    Good one....good shot.
    Can't eat antlers anyway. 😉
I load the same bullet for my 30-30 and stuck some in some 300BLK cases last night for a Ruger Ranch bolt gun.
