    Adjustable Bullet mold

    Good Morning one and all
Does any body know who makes adjustable moulds in 30 cal, I have sent a email to KAL Tool and Die as yet not received an answer.

I don't know who makes adjustable molds but you can have a mold modified to be adjustable.

The old timers who used schutzen rifles had an adjustable mold. Basically the cavity was cut for a bullet with extra grooves, you had the option choosing how heavy or lite by a removable plug that was machined to fit into the grooves. For a lite bullet maybe only 5 grooves for a heavy one maybe 8. Pretty simple idea that worked very well. My description I hope gives you some idea how it worked. Frank

I think KAL only makes moulds for patched boolits, 38 cal and above.

You might check with Steve Brooks. He makes adjustable grease groove moulds, but I don’t know how small a caliber he gets down to.

My admittedly limited experience with adjustable moulds is that I quickly find a length that seems to shoot as good as I can. Then I lock the adjustment and leave it. The adjustment screw is then always sticking out there, to collect lead deposits and splashes and to be a general nuisance from then on.

But I’ve never checked batches of boolits cast at every groove or every 64th of an inch for a slick sided one. Guess my passion for experimentation, load development and general messing around with rifles has its limits after all.
