I found a Lyman Alaskan. 2.5X, Post and line.
Never had one before.
It's not in the greatest condition.
I cleaned it up a little.
I looks usable.
Question is.........
When I look through it, it has a yellow tint.
Normal or needs cleaning.??????

Many old scopes can be restored if you want to spend the money. The name of one outfit slips my mind right now but a Google search may produces several options.
Iron Sight Scope Repair. I know nothing of them, though. I think they start at $150. I've got an old yellowish K4 but I'll live with it.

They used some sap from certain trees to cement the lens sections once the various elements are aligned. Over a long period of time the sap kinda drys out and the lenses delaminate. Think it was the balsam tree. Frank
Body has surface rust, one dent, Seems to be usable.
Probably not worth having it cleaned.
I noticed this scope is heavy.
I'll see if I can clean it up better.
Caps, and focus are stuck.
Put a drop of PB Blaster on them and letting it soak.
if its yellowed it probably lost it gas seal. Yup you can repair it. Spend a 150 bucks and end up with a scope that doesn't even come close to comparing to optically then what you can buy today brand new for a 150 bucks with a warrantee. had a buddy who just loved those old classic weaver scopes. He was showing me some guns one day and every one of them was yellowed. It destroys the light gathering capability's that were marginal at best even when they were new. The last thing I would do is to go out hunting with a crappy scope that I cant trust. My opinion. toss it in the garbage and go and by a Leupold, Nikon, vortex or some other scope in that price range. I love my leupolds but even I wouldn't give you 10 bucks for an old vari x 2 that's 30 years old, has dried up o rings, crappy light gathering, marginal at best lense coatings even when new, and those cheap vague friction adjustments.
Actually the Lyman Alaskans can be worth something. Just check on eBay. They have 7/8" tube so you have too look around for mounts
They go for a good price on evil bay.
But I'm thinking this one is not worth that much.
I didn't think these old scopes were filled with gas.
Is there a way to tell how old it is?????
I have a similar Pecar 2,75x german #1 on my .22 and wound up making plastic busgings for 1" rings. Brownells also carries bushings
