Same powder for CB’s in 7.62x39 and .300 blkout possible?

I’m looking for a single powder that will work in a couple of Rugers, a mini 30 and a mini .300. I want a light load that uses 150 to 170gr cast bullets. I have an old Ideal mould # 311413 that makes a nice 170 gr pointed GC .309/.310 bullet which work ok in my mini 30 propelled by 27.5 gr of H335. I’ve not worked up an accurate load yet, just trying to get the rifle to run. My other mini[14] is at Accuracy Systems currently getting the .300 bbl installed. Thanks ahead.

Might consider 1680, 3031, 4198 or RL 7. These each cross over bet 7.62x39 and 300 bo. I have been working with H110 in 300 bo with cast bullets, but have not investigated the use of it with the 39.

Trail Boss will, AFAIK, work in any rifle or pistol. I've used it in 303 British, 300 Savage, 7.62x54R, 243 Winchester, 38 Special, 45 acp, and 45 Colt. No issues. It is a reduced load, so less kick in the rifles.

I don't think I'd use it for hunting though...

To add to MattW's powder list on the faster side 2400 and other powders on the slower side like H322 A2200-2230 even slower like 4895 if your BO will function with it I know mine did it was a 20" ARwith carbine length gas system . I do know cast in the x 39 run well with 14 grs of 2400 In the SKS and AK not sure about The ruger

Like mattw, I've been using H110 in the BO and haven't tried it in the 7.62x39

Attachment 229540I’m also curious about correlating lead bullet load data between the .300 and x39. Is it safe? Cases are similar size, both intermediate sized cases, both .30 caliber but vastly different uses and platforms. To me it looks like a good comparison as my platforms are both Ruger mini’s, not an AK, AR or a boltgun. I want an accurate lead gc bullet load [not a hunting load] but naturally it has to operate the action and not blow holes in my steel targets. I’ve got H110, H335 and some old 2400 to play with when my 300 returns. It’s turned into a pretty day so I’m going to fire up the lead pot and cast some 170s out in my shop. One more comment/question, would a given 300 load that runs an AR run in a mini? Very different guns. Inquiring minds want to know.

Update-Cast up 100+ out of wheelweights and range lead, quenched them in cold water, lubed and sized ‘em. But I’ve only got 25 more gas checks left.

Update— tried 14 gr of the old 2400 but they wouldn’t operate the action.

With the slower powders it would be hard to over load the BO it only holds so much powder . Will it run in a Ruger? Hard to say depends on how the gas system is set up size of port /location of the port ect. How heavy a recoil spring is in it may also effect things . The action and gas system are different than an AR so take that into account .

Attachment 229813I dug out my Seekins .300 blkout upper and started playing with it. Bipod is now on my m1a build. No way my x39 load will work in the tiny .300 case. Haven’t found any info on a common powder either. Did some experiments with the .310 170 gr gc bullet that works in my x39. Too fat for a .300 so I ran some through a .308 lee sizer die and with 14 gr of H 110 I’m getting feeding, ejection and lock back. Primers are flat but not cratered. Might have to settle on just a common bullet. Still waiting on my pointy boolit mould to arrive. I’ll load up a variety of H110 charges/.308 170’s and put some holes in paper this week. I was ringing my 70 yd gong offhand with them though so they can’t be too funky.
