Stevens 414 armory model

I found a nice one last night setting up at a show. A Stevens 414 armory model in .22lr nice case colors, wood, finish,and the bore is scrubbing up very nice but the rear sight has been modified from a peep to a square notch. I wish I could find an example of pope rifling because this rifles bore doesn't look like regular rifling. I hope to get to the range after the show tomorrow and see how it does.

If it were a Pope or a Stevens-Pope barrel, it would be plainly marked. They weren't shy about it.

Pope and Stevens-Pope rifling was always gain twist.

The standard Stevens rifling form as used in all their .22 rifles of the period was quite good. Only the real experts could get any advantage out of the Pope system.

Sad about the rear sight. It looked pretty chintzy but it did work. Many 414s were retrofitted with tang sights, usually Lyman.
