Fired this bullet (NOE 460-300 HP) in a MMP 50 cal black sabot from a CVA optima muzzleloader with 2 Jim Shockeys pellets
Catcher is a plastic 50 gallon drum filled with rubber conveyor belt chips

Now the kicker I coated this with a 6MM black airsoft bb stuck in the HP

    recovered weight is 212 grns

Been thinking of trying that myself... well, the BB's are thinking of trying it themselves, I have to keep picking them out of my large HP 45-270-SAA's, so I've started to wonder about tapping them deeper instead.

I swage airsoft bb's in the hp's of some of my bullets. 225gr hp's for the 45acp.

Next time I shoot them I pick up some of the bullets, they're extremely impressive. They are the cat's meow on steel & end up looking like banana peels with the airsoft bb stuck in the primer pocket. They flatten out that much and the lead core is nowhere to be found. They also do well on soft tissue, shot 6 or 7 groundhogs with them in a 1911 @ +/- 50 yds. They left holes in the groundhogs you could put your fist in.

Interesting, but ballistic testing has proven when a hollow point bullet hits bone the bullet's cavity plugs up with bone and the bullet's expansion stops, defeating the purpose of the HP. I can't understand how plugging the cavity would differ?

Rubber chips isn't going to tell you much about what the bullet does in a semi liquid medium like flesh. So better is bal gel or simple wetpack. Expansion is a hydraulic dynamic, you need that component.

And to go one better put a 1/4" piece of polymer in front of the wet-pack to simulate going through bone since there is an 80% chance of hitting bone.

Well then I would bury the poly about 2" inside the wetpack or gel. Few are shooting exposed bone. Put a piece of thin leather on the face of that, as hide is amazingly resilient to bullet penetration, it stretches quite a bit.

All I can tell you is I have been testing jacketed and lead bullets this way for over 5 years .. shot about 28 deer in that time and only 2 went more than 10 yrds
most drop in their tracks.. with that said I do NOT take marginal shots..

(we are allowed 6 deer with the issued tags and can purchase more doe tags if desired)

It has more to do with the style of the hp & the weight of the bullet.

Those 45acp bullets pictured above with the xtp pleats and hard lead core (12bhn) are designed to implode/shed their weight/multiple wound cavities. What they look like without the bb in the hp.
    [IMG][/IMG]

Those same bullets pictured above that were recovered from this bundle of wetpack. 2 of the 5 bullets blew out the back of the bundle of 9+"'s of wetpack, (holes in the blue picture).
    [IMG][/IMG]

I opened up the hp/bigger to get the bb's in the hp of those 45acp bullets. Wanted to get less penetration and larger wound cavity. It worked, the same bullet with the bb's in it blew fist sized holes (hamburger) in everything they hit.
