When Did Lee Stop Selling The Sizing "Kit" With Alox?

It must be a few years since I bought a sizing kit but I got a .314 for my new to me 32 H&R Mags through Amazon. Wife started a trial Prime and thought we would try it out.

First kit came without Alox so I sent it back free of charge and ordered another. Second also showed up without Alox. I went on Lee's sight and looked them up. Says right there that you have to buy Alox separate. I was sure the other kit's came with a bottle Alox but maybe I'm wrong on this?

I bought one from Midway about a year ago, and the alox was included.

Apparently the Alox was deemed as hazmat at some point, and the sizer kits stopped shipping with it. I'm pretty sure Midway is the same way now.

Yep, for some reason Alox is a dangerous substance that requires special shipping.

Most quit including it(ALOX) in the last year.

Price for the "kit" dropped", though when I last bought one without. IIRC, it went down 6-7 frogskins per kit & the cost of the Alox in the little bottle was about $6-7 if ya ordered it separately. So, not different, just not included in the price or the kit... "Same same", IOW.

Not much of a change, just a different way to ship.

Likely because not everyone uses it. ( I do... 45/45/10(Recluse), but I now now buy in the bulk quart from a vendor here.

Thanks for the offer, Handloader109. I have 4 bottles from other sizer kits I bought along with a batch of 45/45/10 I mixed up so I'm good for now. The new kit is much shorter than the old kit so they also saved on size.

Not much of a "lube kit" if there is no lube imho.

I remember shipping being an issue last time I ordered one of the lee sizers. So guess this solves the issue. 5 sizers is 5 bottles of alox so cant really see the need for more of them.

I don't think LLA is considered Hazmat, but it is a liquid. When you ship any package via USPS, you are always asked "the" question...and I believe "the" question asks if the item is a liquid. The liquid item is still shipable via USPS, but I believe it has to be properly labeled and maybe properly packed and inspected (to eliminate potential spillage).

That is just my guess, if someone knows for sure...I am surely open to be corrected.

its not that they wont ship it, just not the cheapest easiest way. Last lee sizer I ordered, went to check out and the shipping options were limited. No hazmat, but 'liquid' changed things.

I recall about 8 years back I ordered 2 of the size kits from Midway. I almost had a coronary when I saw the `Hazardous shipping fees` for those 2 kits. I have never bought any further kits, glad to see they dropped the alox that I didn`t use anyway.Robert

You know, this board many have been the cause. So many superior homemade formulas have come from here, there is probably much less demand.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

The original sizing kits (I have three) were not put in a press like the current ones; you sized the bullets by hand with a plastic mallet and punch to drive them through the die. They included: 1) sizer 2) punch 3) melting pan 4) cutter 5) stick of lube (alox). My three are in .244, .308, and .358 calibers as marked on the boxes, which are about the size of the original card board Lee Classic Handloader kit boxes. The newer sizing kits are much quicker and easier to use. I have no idea when the originals were dropped from production, but I switched over to the newer kits years ago. I only use the melting pan and cutter when using lube other than liquid Alox to "coat my bullets".

I just wish you could order the sizing die WITH or WITHOUT the red "catcher" box.

I mean how many do you need ?
I have 6 boxes from Bulge Busters & Bullet Sizers. And I'm planning on at least 4 -6 more sizes.

What the heck do you do with so blasted many round red plastic boxes ?
