Are many of you using red dot green dot sights?

All my rifles are single shots and I've been putting red dot green dot sights on them ( 8 and a few more in the works ), I've got two more that I'm stubbing yet. Fun thing for me to do. Have any of you been using them? My target shooting and hunting ranges are short distance so no need for magnification.

I use them. I like the Hi-Viz. They are not too expensive and work great. I put them on my deer rifles (that I walk with...stand guns still have a scope)...anyway...I find the rear green/front red to be a great combination for super fast target acquisition.

Taken one whitetail with a Aimpoint on my 14.5" AR15. BH 5.56mm 77gr OTM did the job.

I have red dots on my ARs. I’m in the process of putting dots on some of my pistols. And I’ve debated putting them on a couple bolt actions w/ rails. The problem is Ruger’s stock combs are stupid low and I can’t get one to sit low enough. I’m all for red dots when magnification isn’t needed.

I've got a Remington SPR18 that the comb is way too low. Do the still make those lace on combs? If not might have to do some wood working.

I have redots on a few pistols and contender pistol barrels for hunting. I love the 1x magnification out to about 150 yards with the great field of view. All of my rifles get real scopes, some are *** some are leupold 6.5x24 or 8x32 and a couple of other decent brands.

OP...Did I misunderstand you? Are you talking about rifle front/rear red/green sites (ramp and post)...or are you asking about red dot (green dot) 1X optic tube site?

I do use both...for open sites I like the Hi-Viz mentioned above...but I do also like the 1x optic red dot. My only issue is making sure the site gets turned off when not in use or you run down the battery and it becomes useless.

    .

FWIW, I've been using red dot reflex sights (no magnification) on all my hunting rifles ever since the Tasco Optima 2000 was first introduced in Y2K.

Before that I was using Aimpoint red dot sights (not a reflex sight), but ditched them for the smaller/lighter reflex sights (post-Y2K).

Before the Aimpoint, I used the first red dot sight introduced (AFAIK), the Weaver Quik-Point, but ditched it when the Aimpoint was introduced, as I considered the Weaver a "brush hook".

This is a Weaver Quik-Point red dot sight:

Sig Romeo red dot sight is great. Is motion sensitive and turns off aft about 20 min of no movement and on when moved. Dot is 3 moa.

I am a big fan of the Sig Romeo. I have a Fastfire 3 mounted on a 44 Mag M92, but you have to turn it on. I have a Trijicon (I think) on a 357 M92 that is always on. I will change the battery at Christmas. The Trijicon may be a better sight but the Romeo isn’t far behind and was much cheaper. The Romeos are on an AR-15 and Ruger 9mm carbine.

The Singlepoint OEG sight was first used in combat during Operation Ivory Coast. This was the Son Tay Raid by US Special Forces to liberate US prisoners west of Hanoi VietNam in November 1970.

Have 1 of those old Aimpoint red dots and wanted to put it on an ar. Fits on Weaver mounts but to narrow for picatinny rail. Guess it will be used one day

If you’re looking for an inexpensive one to try to see if you like them search Amazon for “Feyachi Reflex Sight”. I have six of them on a bunch of range toys. I would not trust my life to them. But they’re very hard to beat for range duty. The dots aren’t blobs and you have the option of a couple different reticles. I prefer them over the Bushnell TRS-25.

I have a Tru glo on my slug gun. Zero problems with it. Shot a big ol' pig with it last year.
