    Finally happenned

We've lived in rural northern Kansas for about 24 years now and hadn't had a collision with a deer yet until just now. Wife and I were out driving down old Highway 40 and darned if that buck didn't run slap into the side of the car. She saw it just in time and swerved a little, which probably kept us from actually hitting it, but his antlers thumped the side of the car and now we'll have to have some body work done. Fortunately, it was the one with full coverage. I looked around quite a while and didn't find hide nor hair of the buck, so I presume he's out walking around with a headache.

Been seeing more deer activity this year than usual and it's that time of the year. Be careful out there.

And I'm glad he did. No problems killing deer with a weapon, but not that way. I did make a pretty concerted search for him or any blood, antler pieces in the road, nothing. Figured it was the right thing to do, and if we had killed it, I'd have gotten a salvage tag, we have some friends who want a deer and he doesn't hunt.

Years ago I was driving from Lawrence and deer jumped over the car in front, kept ongoing. Turnpike doesn't have limited access to deer. Got deer whistles on the vehicle?
    Whatever!

I hit 3-6 every year here in WVa. Leave before light and get home just before dark. I drive at least 3 hours every day.
They say WVa. Has the highest deer collision in the nation.

This time of year deer collisions go way up here. Farmers are running crops off and that keeps them moving and stirred up a lot more.

hit one on the way back from hunting two years ago. It ran out in front of my Silverado and it hit right on my front headlight. took out the grill, headlight and put a good dent in that front fender and bumper. I had been going 60 and hit the brakes so don't know how fast I was going when I hit it but by the time I was stopped it was still 20 feet out in front of the truck. Partner and I hopped out of the truck knowing it had to be dead and he saw it move. He yelled its still alive and we both went back to the truck. he was trying to grab his knife to cut its throat and I was going for my glock 29 laying on the floor in back seat. We both turned back toward the deer at the same time and our jaw dropped. the deer was gone! there was patchy snow and we tried to follow it but after about a 100 yards in the swamp lost the track. 4k damage to my truck and the deer ran off!! I doubt it lived but if it did it had to be one sore sob!

Narrowly missed a doe, driving around Union, WA on Sunday night. Came around a blind corner and she had just crossed the road and was almost off the road to the right, I yanked the wheel left a bit and missed her completely. She looked in good health

There is a natural crossing in front of my house. 3 or 4 are killed there every year. One morning there were 2 in my front ditch still alive. I shot them both (with cast boolits) and gave them to hunters for the hungry.

Twice we have had deer hit our vehicles. Once I was on my way to bow hunt when a button buck ran out in front of my truck. I braked and swerved and bounced him off the bumper. Mrs. Thumbcocker was surprised when I was back home with meat just about daylight. Last year Mrs. Thumbcocker was driving my truck and smacked another button buck just down the road from the house. Gutted him and had him at the processor by 8:00 a.m. on a work day. Both had their ribs broken and lungs punctured so they passed pretty quickly.

Hit one in an Olds cutlass a few years ago slid down the hood and came into the car feet first remember closing my mouth but still spit out glass, windshields shatter into small fragments to not cut you, scratched the dash and tore the sun visor, when finally got stopped deer slide off hood and ran away. They can do a lot of damage, have hit several over the years, one buck hit the passenger side mirror and tore it off.

Back in the day one of the guys or another would hit a deer on the way in to work, it would go in the back of the truck and we would have it for lunch. I have only had one deer collision, I was driving my sequoia and it was running along side me, along a tall fence, when all of a sudden it turned and bounced off the side of my SUV. No damage, to either one, but it was funny as heck because I was just thinking what if, when it did.

I hit one on a harley several years ago. I was cruising down a nice country road at night. I came around a bend, and four were running along side theroad. One safely crossed in front of me, but when the others didn’t cross, he tried to jump back across. His head hit my front crash bar. I didn’t spill or anything. It took me a few miles to regain my composure and process what just happened, but when I went back there was a state trooper and a dead deer.

I had one run itno me a week ago, that makes #7 for me. Took out the turn signal, and front quarter panel. At the end of my road where it joins the highway, and for a mile north, is the highest deer/auto collision rate mile in the state of Montana
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Glad you were not injured. Deer/auto accidents often result in injury.

I hate it when the elk stand on the yellow stripe and look at you, at night when you can't see them well. About every time I drive the trucker highway next to the Dillon Reserve there are remains on the roadside. Was coming back from Durango a few years back, traffic stopped and deer crossing, in a line like school kids - at the deer crossing sign. You DON'T want to hit a large pig with your vehicle.
    Whatever!
