Cast bullet reloading manual...

Hey guys,
The only reloading manual I have at present, is my Hornady edition that came with my Hornady Lock N Load progressive reloader. Its got a lot of great information and charts in it, but almost all data is based using jacketed bullets. I need a manual based on "cast bullets". Can you guys please make some recommendations. Im especially interested in 45 Colt, 44 Mag, 480 Ruger, and 45-70. Thanks fellas.

Lyman Cast Bullet manuals. Pretty sure most of is have at least #3 & #4. You can find #3 in a pdf. through an internet search engine of your choice.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook is about the only dedicated source. I didnt care too much for the Lyman Reloading 50th because hyped a bunch of cast bullet data. Yeah well no. After the Cast Bullet Handbook, Lyman 50th and Lee Modern Reloader has some info with Lee being my fsvorite.

You csn also find info from powder manufacturers but it is all limited.

For sure Lyman #4 and I still use Lyman #3 which you can order a reprint from Cornell Publications. www.cornellpubs.com . I like like Lyman 50th also.

As mentioned above; Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook (I much prefer the 3rd Edition as it seems to be more new caster oriented while the 4th seems to lean more towards the black powder cartridge reloading). Load data is good in both. I have about a dozen reloading manuals and I've not opened my Lee manual in mebbe 2 years. The first half is an entertaining read but the load data is lacking...

Great Link there - LOTS of good info. Perhaps one of the neatest things is the Lyman manual for 1964 and the 2004 manual. Easy way to tell difference in load recommendations from 1964 to now.

Just checked a used book site. Boy! Those cast bullet books have really appreciated. I have all 4 editions. Looking thru the used book site(Abe Books), it is hard to determine the edition number of some of them. There are entries from France, South Africa, etc. Shipping puts these out of reach for most. I found a couple of #3 that are described as being in good condition and reasonably priced.

There are three entries from stateside dealers where the price is completely unrealistic($199.99). I also looked at Cornell Publications and their offerings are slim. Several of their offerings are described as "Cast Bullet Guide" seem to be glorified pamphlets.

I would recommend looking for a reasonably priced #3 or just order a new #4.

https://www.proshootpro.com/data.htm I get most of my data off the net now. Loading manuals just don't keep up with current powders. The old Lymans will have a lot of good tips about reloading and cast bullets including casting techniques.

I've managed to collect all Speer, Nosler, Sierra, Hornady Handbooks over the years from used book stores(just about a dead concept) & gun shows. I have all 4 of the LYMAN CAST BULLET Handbooks & reg Handbooks back to 39th Edition.

Fantastic REFERENCE Material. Much more technical info then what is put out today, for cast bullet shooters.

You download it as a file. After you have it on your computer, you can scan it with your own antivirus program before opening it.

I learn from the Lyman #3 cast boolit handbook.I do have the 4th one and like was stated you can get reprints from Cornell.I had got the 1st and 2nd from them.

I love reloading books and have a nice collection but you can use jacketed data for cast boolits. The speeds and pressures will be a bit different. Cast always run a little faster and a little less pressure.

Just remember it doesnt work good the other way around
