BJ's near me had them last week, $15 for a set of two: One .50 and one .30 cal. Yeah, Chinese-made but they were rock-solid.
Warning: I know Judo. If you force me to prove it I'll shoot you.

If you are only looking for a few the Sportsman Guide during sales and during a free shipping deal.

I’ve bought from valhalla as well. Cans were good, solid cans. I’m just using them for good storage containers. Wait until cyber Monday, I’m sure someone will have some on sale.

Best place to buy ammo cans?

Numrich has pallet lots of cans right now. No shipping quote available immediately on the website. 50 cal cans are $7.35, 30 cal are $5.45 before shipping.

Best place to buy ammo cans was 1975.
    Great Western Gun Show
    .30cal one dollar each, 6 for 5 bucks, 15 for $12
    .50cal two dollars each 3 for 5 bucks, 10 for $13
    Double wide .50's & 40mm, 4 bucks each.

I made 8 trips out to my Bug, bought all that would fit.

If you have a Tractor Supply Co. in your area they have fairly inexpensive ammo cans new. I didn't ask but high probability of then being chinese made. They look just like the original GI cans and are within fractions of an inch of being the same size as the GI ones, I didn't measure them but they are very close if not exact.

Wal mart has had them as low as $9.98, mostly $12.98. US made, but fit is way worse than the HF Chinese made, which you can get most months with super coupon for $12.99, or with 20% off for $12.79 all the time. I think limit was about 6 with super coupon, or only one with 20% off.
I bought some last year for about $10 each at gunshow, which was a bit more than new. Lot were pretty beat up and rusty.

I was told that Tractor Supply cans are of bad quality with incomplete welds and most are not water tight because of that. Same friend tested Harbor Freight metal cans which didnt take water according to him. I'm guessing both are probably made somewhere in china. Best metal ones were from yard sale from a wife of a vet that brought few home with him from Vietnam. Old but beats the hell out of the new thin ones.

I would take old surplus cans over the new ones any day.

I picked up a few 30 cal cans at a somewhat local surplus store for $10 each. They usually take some money off when you buy four or more but they didn’t today
Cans are used but practically new. No rust, no markings besides the normal content paint, seals are perfect and they close up tight. Compared to others they had these were a steal. They had ones that were in really poor shape and placards taped to them. I didn’t “need” any more cans but I won’t pass up ones in this condition.

Definitely not the deal that the case lots of 50 cal cans was that I bought awhile back. Those were $7 a can shipped. PSA needs to run another sale on them. But this time it needs to be 30 cal cans

Are you a member of a range that rents to agencies for qualifications and training? They leave stuff in the trash or on polite request. Brass and ammo cans are common at my range. No live ammo, such a pity.

Gun and sporting goods auctions. I bought two fat 50's at one a few year agos, for $12 each, Should have bought them all.
Been back every year since but they don't always have the fat 50. Plenty of 30's and 50's.
Runnings has plastic fat 50 and I have a couple of them but don't recall the price.
Have many of the Plastic cans from Harbor Freight. I think if they could get the fat 50's they would sell a lot of them.
I use one of the plastic fat 50's to hold the Chrono with the printer and extras. Like the adapter to hook it to a 12 volt battery, Those 9 volts get expensive.

I won't buy new ammo cans, hard to know who made them. See them at wal mart, but come on its wal mart, like they would source such a thing in the US when Chinese made is cheaper? Harbor freight, etc all gonna be the same. China is a metric country, metric sheet metal is not the same as US gauge. Its either to thick, or to thin. Why dimensions can be off, you wonder why ammo boxes fit in one but not another.

The gouging local shop has 30 cal cans for almost $30, but then a bigger 40mm can is only $30.
