Best place to buy ammo cans?

Looking for the best place to buy military ammo cans. This is a request from a friend who is looking; I collected all I will need over the years.
Moderators, please move this thread if I posted in the wrong place.

Best place to buy ammo cans?

Vendors will periodically have sales on case lots of them. It’s usually easier to find them locally for less money. Shipping them adds a lot to the cost in most instances. If he’s looking for a pallet lot 30 cal cans can be had for around $5-$6 each.

Both Harbor Frieght and Tractor Supply carry them, $10-$12. repainted. good tight seals. I caught HF just when they were new and cheap Bought all they had, about 40 for a little over $200. Had deal going, I new the manager, blah blah good score - good product some times have bigger than 50 ps ALL mine were 50 Bmg or bigger. 30's are just not that useful: IMHO

The HF cans aren’t made in the US and have questionable welds. You can find US made cans for the same or less money.

If you have any military bases near you watch the Military Surplus or GSA auction sites, the downside is that you may have to buy by the pallet or truckload for things like that. A few years ago a group of guys at work banded together and bought a Lot of cans. They made their money back but it took a while for them to get rid of them all.

I pick mine up at the local ( and not so local ) flea market. I paid about $8 each for them, they look brand new and the seals are tight and gaskets good. I suspect they get spirited from Ft. Benning, just across the river from here....
I have one full of .45 boolits, one full of 9mm boolits, one of .45 brass, sized and cleaned, another 2 of 9mm brass sized and cleaned, and still one with boxes of primers, with two that are empty at this time.

Hi. Midway has a sale on them now. Your profile doesn't say where you are, but occasionally, Costco sells new ammo cans...usually a set of 30 & 50 cal cans for about $15.00 IIRC. Ed

OP, please add location to your profile. In NC the best option is gun shows.

Last I bought were off E-bay, look for offers of multiple cans. Mine were USGI 50 cal and I got 8 for about $9 each with shipping. Cans were like new. Have also found them at gun shows, but several dollars more. The pricey cans are the newer "fat" 50 cans, but they hold 50 round plastic boxes with plenty of room.

Local surplus stores. Ours has 'em by the pallet full but the guy prices 'em at $20. I have almost no doubt, however, that he'd be flexible on the price if I were the ask.

Lots of discussion about the new cans from HF and several others. To me, they serve the same purpose and you don't have rust, dents, scratches, labeling, faded paint, and bad seals. Use discount cupon and their cheaper than genuine.
    Information not shared. is wasted.
