Today I'll try out another and report back: 1917 Win 1894 sporter. The carbine has a lovely bore. The century old sporter... no so much.

Nice rifle and nice buck! I’ve just started playing with 150ksh cast hollow points for the 30wfc. I know for a fact that 170ish side nose flatpoints are absolutely poisonous to deer and pigs!

The HPs are a new road for me. The wound you see in the pic above is the entry! Deer was uphill and angling away--boolit exited the neck and made a relatively small hole there. My guess is the hp portion of the boolit was highly frangible, and the shank plowed on through. Blood trail was unreal.

The 30-30 is still getting it done at 123 years of age. Well played, sir!

Little 30 cal has rolled more deer into the dirt than any 308_30-06-270 and likely all listed combined.
Got yourself a good eat'in deer in that pix sir. As for me. Got me a 37 carbine that I paper patch. Dead soft lead sized to .301 makes a dandy hole plus the lead is usually found intact during the animals skinning. "Kind'a neat when its shooter can recycle his bullet don't y'll think"

Congrats on a nice piece of venison.
With a place for blood to escape that low on the body, I bet there was one heck of a blood trail.

There was. Ray Charles could have found the deer. Buck trotted thirty yards and tipped over.
