How about a Kangaroo rifle in .357 mag?

Picked up this cute Martini rebarreled to .357 mag a couple of years ago. It’s one of the Australian Cadet N.S.W. rifles with the kangaroo engraved on the receiver. A very sweet shooter though I kinda wish it still had the original sights.Attachment 229198

Nice find looks like a great walking around rifle. Scope wouldn’t be my first choice either. Bet a nice blade front and skinner peep would be the cats pajamas!

Here is one with the Parker Hale #8 sight. It took me awhile to find a load that shoots good but finally did and I'm very happy with it. Nice and light and shoulders well.

Very nice! I think the 357 mag is about the perfect caliber for the cadet. Last week I saw one in 44 mag at a gun shop. Ouch!

Mine is in 357 Max and I can not take it to the range without members drooling over it. I am often asked if I was allowed only one rifle what would it be, I would keep the Cadet in 357 Max and my 375 Whelen Imp as well. Regards Stephen

I had a scout scope mounted on this one in 7MM Waters. It will shoot dime size groups at a 100yd if I do my part. Easy to carry and light on recoil it would make the perfect starter deer rifle for a woman or kids.

The original style tang sights are often found on Ebay for sale pretty cheap. If you want to have scope and sight options I'd simply buy irons and add them to your Cadet.

Latched on to one a while back already converted to .357 mag and that lovely PH rear sight, I replaced the bead front with a PH globe from my parts bin and use a straight vertical insert, works great with my 74 yr old eyes. I did convert it to Max against advice from various fora, they said it doesn't work. Only thing is that I have to hold the lever down to load and unload that longer case. No problem! The original rear sight is missing and I really need a scope so I made a mount from a 4" piece of 12ga barrel with some blocks centered up and soldered on the barrel touching the action. I used some tall rings to get clearance for loading. The rig works great. Settled on a load of 28gr A1680 pushing a 190gr cast PP boolit, shoots consistently 3/4" groups, at least on days when I'm not shaking too much. Took a doe with it last year, bang/flop.

Did want to say that conversion to .44 Mag is not a good idea, the chamber walls are awfully thin. Stiff loads can give you a swelled chamber. GW

Ive one chambered in 25-35 .A friend has one chambered in 30-30.

I was fortunate enough to find an original unaltered one. Took some time getting set up for making ammo but it is a great shooter.

One of the most accurate .22's I ever shot was a Martini actioned competition gun.

Like others have said, my eyes are not good anymore so if I ever got one in CF I would mount a 1.5-5x scope on it. Just a dandy action and trigger. Love single shots too.
